Ernest Dove - A glimmer of hope for Captain Kirk and our beloved Mets.
It seems like every time you want to give up watching this team, they come along and do something like this. Now what?
Do I get excited again? Not about this team actually making a run or anything, but about this team trying their best every night.
There have been so many other promotions starting to happen in the minors right now. As everyone starts to move up, should I be excited? Are we all truly ready for the Mets version of 'Super Tuesday'? What happens if Harvey and Wheeler both have quality starts, and the Mets pull out a couple of 2-1 or 3-1 wins?
What if 'Captain Kkirk' starts hitting like it was April 2012? I guess all us Mets fans really want to do is believe. Our version of the Bad News Bears is all we got. We're still getting Wheeler. We've still got Travis D on his way. Daniel Murphy is due for another hitting streak. And maybe one day this year the organization will figure out what to do with Wilmer Flores.
For now, it is what it is. One win to avoid a sweep against a team with the same amount of losses as us. But its a win. Win or lose, the games keep coming every day. Us Mets fans are a lot happier on those 'win' days. So we will take it. And now what?
We can't bash Sandy and Terry forever. Maybe its time to believe in Sandy Alderson. Wheeler is taking the mound Tuesday. Marlon Byrd and David Aardsma scream 'money ball' smart move pickups. Eventually Travis D might actually stay healthy enough to be our Buster Posey. Noah Syndergaard should soon be heading to AA. And Montero appears next up for the 'hype machine' in 2014. Factor in the $50 mil of new money this off season and what we have is an opportunity.
Everyone has their reasons for choosing the Mets over the Yankees as their team. Location, parents preference, 1986 (that's me). I'm ready to believe. Even if just for the simple fact that I got no other choice. My team is my team..........And the New York Giants only play once a week starting a few months from now.
So its back to optimism for me. I'm the guy still waiting for Daniel Murphy to hit .330, Duda to hit at least .260, and David Wright to be..............well..............David Wright. So bring on the rest of the year. Heck, even bring back Ike if he ever figures it out. I'm ready to watch my team do what it can. And whether they are coached by Terry Collins, Tim Teufel, or Wally Backman, I will still be watching. And, next year, if (or when) they eventually end up overpaying for the next Jason Bay in free agency, I will remain an angry, yet loyal, Mets fan.
I will be buying my yearly tickets to watch my Mets try and eventually beat the Marlins in Marlins Park (with the other half of the 4,000 plus fans who are rooting for the Mets and not the Marlins).

I'm a 1986 casualty as well. I knew about the Mets before I knew what baseball really was so to me, the Mets ARE baseball. I remember in 1987 I couldn't understand why the weren't in the World Series - I thought they went every year.
Keep expecting them to be what they are this year and be pleasantly surprised when they exceed expectations. My enthusiasm comes from the positive individual developments - Harvey's emergence, Parnell settling in as closer, Niese getting back to himself (over the last five starts he has an ERA under 2.0), Duda's power, Wheeler's anticipated arrival, and the minor league successes.
