Six Top Mets Prospects On Cyclones Roster

Gavin Cecchini, the Mets’ first-round pick in 2012, rates as the Cyclones’ primary amusement: a rugged, tilt-a-whirl, spray-hitting shortstop. Rated as the top Amazin’s position prospect by Baseball America before the Travis D’Arnaud trade, the 19-year-old Cecchini played Rookie-level ball last year at Kingsport, batting .246 with a slight .330 slugging percentage.

“He’s getting bigger and better,” Donnelly said. “This will be a good test for him. This is a good league, and he’s only one year out of high school.”

L.J. Mazzilli, son of former Met Lee Mazzilli and a fourth-round pick from UConn, will be Cecchini’s double-play partner.

Kansas State outfielder Jared King (fifth round), Oklahoma first baseman Matthew Oberste (seventh) and speedy Michigan outfielder Patrick Biondi (ninth) are three more promising collegians on the way to join catching prospect Thomas Nido.  LINK
