It is great to see a handfull of DSL prospects like that haven't even played an inning of pro baseball.

Mack true, and it is great for me to see the name Tylor Megill, and for John to see Wilmer Reyes, no doubt.

Szapucki MIA. No Junior Sanchez. No Quinn Brodey.

Ominously, Broadway has been cancelled thru next spring. Let's hope we get 162 in for 2021.

Tom

The Mets have obviously not targeted anyone they plan to play in Syracuse next spring.

FYI, the players union did not allow any players on the 40 man roster to participate. That is why no Szapuki. Also, it would have been a good place to try Rosario in CF but again no 40 man roster players were allowed.

It's important to note that this is a collective bargaining issue and the MLBPA is 100% within its rights to enforce this as it pertains to players on the 40-man roster. And no one from management is seriously against this. Sure, there may be some generic, "We'd have Star Rookie X in camp if the Union would let him..." posturing but it's not a significant issue in the big picture of labor issues.

A couple of weeks ago, Ken Rosenthal got a copy of a memo sent by the MLBPA to agents. It said: "“Work schedules/calendars are core terms and conditions of employment. Allowing these camps to proceed for 40-man players would represent an extension of the 2020 work calendar and a fundamental change to collectively bargained rights.”

Rosenthal also said: "The union said it will honor a club’s request for consent only if the club commits to provide living allowances and benefits that disabled players are entitled to receive under Article VII(F) of the CBA."

Finally, the memo said: "“And while these camps are being advertised by most clubs as ‘voluntary,’ we have heard from several sources that players are being pressured to attend, and also that several players fear adverse consequences from club decision-makers if they choose to instead return home.”

Good for the MLBPA for standing up for its members.

Wasn’t Szapucki on the alternate site anyway? He got some playing in there.

Two Cent Chip In

Regarding RDS900's article today above.

There are no NY Mets manager's (coming to my mind) that did not make some fairly obvious or large even player personnel substitutions during a game, that I am aware of anyway.

Terry with his usual too many bullpen guys coming into games to pitch three baseballs and then go sitdown. Mickey with his pinch hitter selections. Even if you go back to the great 1986 NY Mets Championship season with Davey Johnson at the helm, there were some glaring miscues that he made (large and small) and almost every regular season game he managed too.

So why is that?

It's baseball.

A game of chance and often dramatic consequences for gambling on desired outcomes a manager thinks should happen but do not always work out so well.

However too, some managers did not ever seem to change the way that they chose to manage. In other words adjust. Seldom few are ever remembered by the media or their team's fans. They leave and are basically forgotten.

And then finally this...

There is what I call the "20/20 hindsight thing" that especially reporters love to remind managers and fans of all the time. Entire baseball websites now exist dedicated to doing just this...hindsight armchair experts with a box to stand on and a television or radio megaphone. Media people who never one time laced on a pair of spikes.

To them it is their livelihood.

To us, well, it can be somewhat annoying since every single manager whoever managed at any baseball level makes their share of mistakes. The key here of course being to just make the smaller less costly ones. Not always such an easy thing to do.

Luis Rojas should retain his manager title through at least the 2021 season, because 60 games is simply not enough to gauge anyone and he as this team's manager did not construct the 2020 25 man roster either.

If this team were to lose Luis Rojas now after such an abbreviated time period, I am pretty sure that they would be sorry later on after he fills these shoes. Just a gut thing from what I have seen thus far.

Let's see what he can do here.

Yankees Bow Out

In the words of my all time favorite (by far) NY Radio Host (As Well As Man About Town) Steve Somers (now 102 and still farting lightening like Rocky) Brian Cashman appears to have dropped the proverbial dreidel last night against the way too tough Tampa Bay Mighty Ducks, by a score of just 2-1, thus being ashamed and eliminated.

Oh, the pain Steve! Oh, the agony this must have caused Sir Brian!

The downtrodden Yankees departed Florida on a broken down bus heading into the storm left behind by Miss Delta. A sad day in Yankees sports lore indeed.

But maybe some of you Yankee fans can still (maybe) recall 2009?

We can only hope so.

Re-exploring The 2021 Starting Pitching Ideas

It would be interesting to get a lot of different opinions here from posters on this particular topic, since this one topic will probably be the most important one to determine how the 2021 NY Mets season goes. I think we all agree on this.

My concern with the 2021 NY Mets five starting pitcher selection is mainly centered around the health of Noah Syndergaard. More precisely, if and then when he can return next season.

For me, I think that the most conservative approach may be the best approach to go with. Assuming Noah may (and who knows) not be back at all in 2021. There could be setbacks to consider here with this.

So assuming this, what would everyone's strategy here be to build a 2021 Playoff NY Mets rotation? And then too, how would you do this with both trades and free agency?

to take with this.
