Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: MLB owners expected to vote in favor of Steve Cohen Friday, Mets offseason now in Bill de Blasio’s hands. “The worst-case scenario is if this drags on long enough, the Mets miss out on all major free agents, miss out on potential trades and they go into next season effectively in the same place they are this season,” said a person familiar with the situation. “And that would really be not good. If that happens, they’re effectively crippled for next season.”

NY Post: MLB owners will vote on Mets sale to Steve Cohen on Friday. The transfer from the Wilpons to Steve Cohen is expected to pass.

Forbes.com: Steve Cohen Should Not Worry About Latest Hurdle In Pursuit Of New York Mets. “But sources say that not only does Cohen already have the necessary amount of votes from his MLB owner peers, but that any notion de Blasio would stall the sale process or block Cohen altogether from taking the Mets’ ownership reins is “far-fetched,” even if Cohen does carry some professional baggage.”

Reflections On Baseball: Sorting Out The Outfield Requires Zero Mistake Decisions For 2021. “Among the six players [Outfielders currently listed on the Mets Roster] you will not find a true major league centerfielder. A quick perusal of the Class of 2021 Free-Agent centerfielders finds only George Springer worthy of any team’s consideration.”

NY Post: George Springer’s souring Astros relationship could be big boon for Mets. “according to Patrick Creighton of ESPN 97.5. Creighton reported that, according to sources, Springer wants to leave the Astros after pre-season talk of an extension never materialized. A three-time All-Star, Springer turned 31 in September and could be a target of the Mets, who are in desperate need of a right-handed bat and a center fielder.

Why they pulled Snell is a mystery. Resting him for the next start, I guess.

Turns out Tampa needed TWO Arozarenas.

Best team in baseball won it all. Can the Mets be close to the best team in BB next year?

John From Albany said...

Tom. Don't think Mets will be best team next year. It will take a few.

Congrats to Corey Sager WS MVP. Who needs him - Sandy picked Gavin Cecchini ahead of him in the draftvthat year. If Sandy has more drafts like that Mets won't be best team in baseball for a looong time.

Tom Brennan said...

That Cecchini pick has had an awful ripple effect on this franchise. Truly foolish.

John, Cohen will spend big, and teams may be offering bargains to shed payroll. I wouldn’t rule out 2021 just yet.
