One of the most exciting players in the country, Green is a do-it-all, powder-keg package of explosivity and bottled energy on the baseball diamond. Already 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, he’s a physical specimen built different than his colleagues. Simply put, there’s not much Green cannot do. At this stage, Green might be the best prep prospect the MLB Draft has seen in quite some time. Some evaluators believe he could be a plus hitter with plus-plus raw power, and he’s already tapping into that juice in-game. He’s currently a 70-runner with a 70-arm as well. There can be some swing and miss in his game, so that’ll be the one thing scouts are keeping an eye on. There aren’t too many warts in his game. Green is a very special talent and teams will covet his talents in the draft.

Green is an elite prep prospect who has an exciting toolset. The five-tool prep player is the early favorite to go first overall next year due to his athleticism and power potential. There aren’t many holes in Green’s game. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound outfielder has elite speed and exceptional arm strength. He is a refined prep talent who might be the best draft-eligible prep player in the last five years.

A prospect on par with the top of the international amateurs, Green has power, speed, he's short to the ball, he can wait back on offspeed stuff, he has great plate coverage and barrel control, and his swing isn't yet as athletic as it could be. It's rare for a high school prospect to top a future draft list at this site.

"Scouts have no problem saying that which gives you an idea of what kind of talent this is," McDaniel told LakePoint Sports. "...He's a top-of-the-scale runner with top-of-the-scale power. He's facing pitchers older than him every day. He can play center field. He basically checks every box."

 

While Green's profile is one that could lead to superstardom, it does have some questions. Baseball America's Carlos Collazo pointed out that only six high school outfielders have been selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft but Greene could have been a high pick if he were eligible in this year's class.

 

"His father, Eric, played in the NFL as a tight end for 10 seasons and it's not difficult to see those pro bloodlines," Colazo said in his latest Stock Watch column. "What separates him already is an advanced offensive approach and the Miami commit showed great understanding of how pitchers would attack him and how he could adjust and respond within at-bats."

Short Story: Has a blend of size, speed and power that few prospects in recent memory possess. This goes on both sides of the ball. Everything seems to take steps forward every time we see him, from the usable in-game power to his arm strength. This helps to bet on Green reaching his mountainous ceiling as the development process just keeps trending up to the sky.

 

Big Moment: Green gave us a glimpse of what he is really capable of at the 16U WWBA World Championship when he hit .583-2-11. He combined to produce 20 runs, hit another seven doubles, and even chipped in three stolen bases for good measure. The home runs hit were some of the highlights of the summer regardless of class.

 

Bold Prediction: Green is already capable of changing the game with one swing of the bat, with real power from foul line to foul line. He covers an ocean in center field as well. All of the little things take shape and he solidifies himself as the best prospect in the last few draft classes.

He stands at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds and posted a 6.2 second time in the 60-yard dash, but his greatest quality is his approach at the plate. According to ESPN insider Kiley McDaniel, some scouts have compared him to Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr.

Elijah Green put it all on display at the PG Junior National Showcase in Hoover, Ala., in June when he put his bat speed on display with a 100 mph exit velo, threw 93 mph from the outfield and set an event record by turning in a 6.20-second clocking in the 60-yard dash.

The top ranked player in the 2022 class, Green has a chance to be a generational talent with his 6.20 speed, plus right-handed bat speed and the strength of a 6-foot-3, 215 pound uber-athlete.  And it’s a complete package, too, as Green is a 4.0 student in the classroom and has elite genetics through his dad, Eric, a three-time NFL Pro Bowl tight end.

Green is about as good as they come amongst draft prospects. Quite literally the prime example of a perfectly optimized prep bat, he’s already had exit velos in the triple-digits and generally has launch angles in the 18-20° range. An easy plus runner who also possesses a plus arm in the outfield, Green is without a single tool that doesn’t grade plus or better. You can slap a 6 on the arm, run, field, but the power should reach a 7—if not more. The teenager possesses a relatively low maintenance swing compared to year’s past power hitters. Creating natural loft (maximized by his body tilt) in the highly optimized swing, Green’s bat gets to ideal points at launch and contact, including a relatively steep vertical bat angle. There’s not much more to say about him. He’s the best high school hitter in the country right now and if it were possible, reclassifying into 2021 and coming out draft eligible as a 17-year-old with his tools has the capability to break Bobby Witt Jr’s high school record signing bonus of $7,787,400. The draft and dynasty world will be drooling over Green throughout the next 18 months and beyond.
