Press Release: Wilson, Marauders Bounce Back to Beat St. Lucie Mets 8-3

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 23, 2021) – The Bradenton Marauders bounced back from Thursday's collapse and beat the St. Lucie Mets 8-3 at Clover Park on Friday night (Box Score

Bradenton catcher Eli Wilson went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, two walks and three RBI. 

The Marauders scored three runs off Mets starter Franklin Parra in the third inning. Jack Herman ripped a two-run double to make it 2-0 and later in the inning with one out Wilson laced RBI double for a 3-0 lead. 

Jose Peroza got the Mets on the board with a leadoff homer in the fourth to make it 3-1. It was his fifth homer of the year. 

Wilson came up clutch again with a two-out RBI single in the fifth to knock Parra out of the game and put the Marauders back ahead by three, 4-1. 

Jose Colina mashed a solo home run for the Mets in the fifth, his first of the year, to cut the Mets deficit to 4-2. 

The game was delayed at the start of the eighth inning for 51 minutes due to lightning in the area. When play resumed the Marauders scored two runs against reliever Colin Holderman when Daniel Rivero and Maikol Escotto hit back-to-back two-out RBI singles to push the Marauders lead to 6-2. 

The Marauders plated two more in the ninth, including another RBI double by Wilson, to go up 8-2. 

Jaylen Palmer singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to extend his hitting streak to six games. He went on to score on a hit by Tanner Murphy. 

Parra (3-3) took the loss for the Mets. He was charged with four runs on nine hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. 

Bradenton starter Logan Hofmann pitched well, allowing just the Peroza homer in 4.0 innings. Reliever Drake Fellows followed Hofmann with 2.1 innings of one-run ball to get the win in his team debut. 

The Mets (37-33) and Marauders (42-27) meet for the fifth game of their series at Clover Park on Saturday at 6:10 p.m.
