Metstradamus - I Think We Could All Use A Few Beers After That

By  |

The Mets were at DEFCON 3 after the bottom of the first inning on Sunday. After the bad loss on Saturday, the failure to replace Jacob deGrom with a warm body, which came back to bite them when Taijuan Walker couldn’t get through the first inning today, and then this …

You know … this could have, and would have been the return of LOL Mets if this game had gone the way I thought it was going to go. The play itself was embarrassing enough, but Walker really didn’t do anything embarrasing himself. He just thought the ball was foul. But to have three runs score on the play which brought back memories of David Cone in Atlanta, and then to have Luis Rojas completely melt down after the play, this would have been a complete disaster for the season going forward.

Considering everything that happened up until that particular point, I would consider Rojas’ argument way more “meltdown” and way less of a calculated ploy to get his players going. He wasn’t protecting one of his players … he was flipping out over a call that the umpires got correct (for once.) But credit the 25* men on the roster for turning Rojas’ meltdown into a rallying point for an unbelievable comeback. Fueled early by a three run home run by Travis Blankenhorn, among other things, and then taken over the top by at two run home run by a guy who really needed it Michael Conforto, a team that really needed it … got it.

Incredible - Mets back off the ledge after the Conforto rocket

Observes

1. Interesting one. This new guy Travis Blankenhorn. I like this kid. I see something I haven't seen in awhile, like with JT Turner and later on with Jeff McNeil. Travis like these above two mentioned, can hit homeruns with the greatest of ease and not a huge cut on the ball. Arms it out in other words. He is young, and he can play multiple positions. My advice here is keep an eye on this Travis Blankenhorn down in AAA Syracuse because you may just have here another one.

2. Jerad Eikhoff needs more seasoning down at AAA. Once accomplished, I see him as a really good mid reliever type here. May need to add one more out pitch.

3. This annoying assumption we are hearing from every baseball venue that these 2021 NY Mets need another big bat is simply not correct. What is needed here we actually saw last night and that is last season's "team attack" at the plate with everyone doing their part. It was gorgeous to see and I think it is baaaaack! Well done Mets hitters and bravado to you all! I never stopped believing it was still there in you.

4. I'm not sure how the Cole Hamels thing went recently, but if he still looks alive and good maybe him here? But if not, maybe someone else that is still excellent as an upper end veteran starter, just in case. Someone on the final year of his current contract because the Mets have Thor Syndergaard coming back hopefully sometime early September. But a team has to be "doubly sure" and getting another top end starter via a trade won't break the Mets back or bank I do not think anyway. It's simply like aflac, as in the duck. Quack, quack, quack! There are starters out there to look into.

5. You guys ever notice that wherever and whenever the Mets put Luis Guillorme (the younger Zach Brown clone looking guy) into the ball game, he does very well. If this were basketball, he'd be the league's top sixth man. He's that good if not better!

5. Knicks should get 1. Damian Lillard 2. Iowa monster center Luca Garza. Luka Vildoza into the games.
