I have oft waxed eloquent about NY Mets’ hitting woes at home vs. road.
I imagine when they play at home, they experience a pervasive condition called “home groan.”
Question:
Do the Mets minors follow suit? Do they groan at home? Let’s see…
SYRACUSE AAA
Home: 42 games, 228 runs, .259
Away: 44 games, 263 runs, .257
- pretty even, home v. road, but 3/4 of a run per game more on road.
- Edge to the Road.
BINGHAMTON AA
Home: 40 games, 149 runs, .218
Away: 38 games, 197 runs, .249
- Much better away, swatting on the good old Road.
BROOKLYN HIGH A
Home: 39 games, 163 runs, .224
Away: 42 games, 174 runs, .211
- Very slight edge at home
- Unusual, in the Little Park of Horrors in Coneyville.
ST LUCIE FULL A
Home: 36 games, 144 runs, .213
Away: 45 games, 187 runs, .224
- Somewhat better on the road.
FCL METS
Home: 21 games, 86 runs, .212
Away: 23 games, 123 runs, .256
- Much better on the road.
DSL METS ORANGE
Home: 13 games, 52 runs, .200
Away: 12 games, 49 runs, .220
- Pretty even.
DSL METS BLUE
Home: 14 games, 68 runs, .236
Away: 11 games, 58 runs, .227
- Pretty even.
Overall, the Mets minors hitters (production-wise) hit somewhat better on the road than at home, emulating the hitting afflictions of the Queens mother ship.
I guess the Mets organization, when it comes to its hitters, is unfamiliar with the concept of home field advantage.
Seems someone should look into why.

The blistering hot All Star Francisco Lindor (well, he should be an All Star) clocked a HR last night. But his best drive of the night was in another at bat where he drove a shot down the line that went deep into the seats, but per the radio announcers, inches foul. Fences 6-7 feet closer to the plate, and that ball is just FAIR and a home run.
I hope someone in the F.O. Is tracking all these near-misses.
All Star Brandon Nimmo (well, he should be an All Star) clocked a 3 run Jack. He has 15 HRs, 58 RBIs, 10 more RBIs than Pete Alonso (who shouldn’t be an All Star, but is).
Brandon is tied for 16th in RBIs despite hitting 1 or 2 the whole year.
Move Pete up in the order and Nimmo to 3rd?
If I had to pick one - Nimmo or Pete - I am going with Nimmo.
Reid Garrett is being overused and abused. Thankfully, Luis Maton will be in the pen now. Give Reid some down time.
Jose Quintana is shutting my mouth. Pitching like an ace lately. Now 4-5, 3.91.
Lastly, DJ Stewart must be asked to depart ASAP.
ANOTHER hitless game. He’s done the Electric Slide all the way down to .168. Last 30 games he is 8 for 64. If you said he hit like a pitcher, pitchers would get insulted. Right now, his glove and speed are his two main assets, relatively speaking. You catch my drift. He can join DanielVogelbach and Darin Ruf in the unemployment line.

He will be one of the probably two new pen pieces for the remainder of the season

Surprising how many of those prospects are injured and not playing this year.
D J, the slight good prospect injury news is Jacob Reimer started playing rehab games yesterday, we will see how that goes.

Is the Lucchesi designation a prelude to him going to the Rays as the player to be named later?
D J, it is remarkable the post-draft injuries in that 2023 draft. Makes it very hard to evaluate its success or failure. So far, outside of Sproat, it looks like an overall failed draft.
DFA Steward and our Terry Collins want to be won't have him to use in any lineup.
Yes, use the hot bat in the 3rd slot.
Viper, the two things that disturb me most is 1) keeping DJ Stewart, and 2) overusing Garrett. Garrett isn’t trash, don’t burn him out. Those 3 runs Garrett gave up yesterday were ON MENDOZA.
When I see Garrett used so much, my mind goes back to another guy with a filthy splitter that said his splitter is better when he’s a little tired, so they used him all the time. Bruce Sutter saved alot of games for Atlanta and St. Louis with that splitter, and was used alot. Is Garrett preferring to that usage, but is it in his best interests? Is Matt Gage joining the team today, also?
Ron Darling last night offered a simple fix for Adam Ottovino to try and fix the flatness of the slider. Would love to have him back as he was. And Mendoza really needs to stop killing pitchers. It was great to see Quintana come out for the seventh when he already had six innings and over 90 pitches. It would be cool if they can get Orze in a game before he gets sent down.
Lucchesi was removed from the 60 to make room for Maton.

Home or away, the minor league hitting stats are pretty underwhelming. Given the number of pitchers they took last year (under a different regime, of course) I won’t be surprised if they focus on hitters in the first 5 rounds or so of the draft. It hasn’t helped that guys like Williams, Gilbert, and Reiner haven’t played, but still. I’m choosing to remain hopeful that our drafts going forward will be better overall.
