Mets In Playoffs;

The past five seasons began with brimming optimism, only to be dashed by unprecedented, historic failures and decimating injuries. Fans have begun to temper their expectations.

That is why I believe the Mets can conduct a sneak attack on the National League. They have plenty of good players, and if healthy, they can beat anyone. If healthy...

The past several seasons have put Met fans through the proverbial mill. In 2006, they let a Cardinals team beat them on home runs by So Taguchi and Yadier Molina. What are the odds of those two players beating you with the long ball? I'm not sure, but it ranks up their with drowning deaths in the Sahara Desert.

In 2007, they blew a seven-game lead in the NL East with 17 games to play. In 2008, they lost a 3 1/2 game lead with 17 games to play. No team had ever done the former in the history of the game. The latter just salted up the wound.  -  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/355138-mlb-2010-the-mets-will-make-the-playoffs

The Core:

The Mets finally have a prototypical power hitter in David Wright. So what do they do? They build the largest stadium dimensions known to man and add a 25-foot wall to boot.

The Mets have a five-tool center fielder in Carlos Beltran. So what do they do? The string him along for so long with his knee injury that Beltran is forced to go out and get his knee repaired on his own.

In Francisco Rodriguez, the Mets have one of the best and most consistent closers in the game; it’s just too bad that they are still unable to find a pitcher or two to bridge the gap between he and Johan Santana. Who needs a top-notch closer when you don’t have the tools to put your team in a position where his services are needed?

And now we come to Jose Reyes. Ahh, where do we begin?

Tradition Moolah:

The Mets have not yet received their yearly payment from Core Communities, which has a contract for the naming rights to Tradition Field. The payment of $95,769.17 was due Monday, but Mets director of Florida operations Paul Taglieri said as far as he knew they had not received the money.

Straw Agrees With Mack:

It’s one thing when loony Jerry Manuel starts hallucinating about Jenrry “Wild Thing” Mejia being the next Mariano Rivera. After all, we’ve all become accustomed to way-out comments like that from Manuel who in addition to being a manager, gives the Mets some additional shock and entertainment value for their dollar. And getting bang for their buck hasn’t exactly been a Mets strong suit in the past decade. However, while I mostly ignored and simply chuckled at Manuel’s suggestion, I can’t help but notice how so many are buying into the hype, including Darryl Strawberry who chimed in – also believing Jenrry Mejia can be the next Mariano Rivera, as reported on MetsBlog. “There’s your closer,” says Straw Man.
