Reyes Update, Johan Update, Lots of Positives, Nomar... and Get Me One Of These Shirts

Reyes Update:

The Mets will brace for at least two more days — perhaps longer — without Jose Reyes, after test results yesterday confirmed he has an overactive thyroid. Reyes will remain in New York to await the results of blood tests to decide his treatment, according to a statement released last night by the team. Those results are not expected until tomorrow at the earliest. - link

Johan Update:

In real life, Santana says this after throwing 47 pitches over an inning and two-thirds, after recording five outs and allowing six hits and four runs in his first real workday since his elbow was fixed. These are the kind of numbers that, at first, might make you want to channel your inner Steinbrenner, especially since, as a Mets fan, you must take it on faith that Santana is the sun around which everything else in your universe revolves. - link

Lots of Positives:

Lots of positives. You just need to open your eyes and look for them. Keep an eye on Bobby Livingston, Fernando Martinez, Ryota Igarashi, Russ Adams, and Shawn Bowman. They’re all playing pretty well too. I hope you’re all as encouraged as I am, as we have plenty of good reasons to be optimistic for a change. Different air, different demeanor, and I am hopeful for a different result on the field. LGM  -

Nomar:

The Boston Red Sox have scheduled a press conference at 10:30 a.m. today at City of Palms Park in which multiple sources indicate, Nomar Garciaparra will announce his retirement. Garciaparra played 14 seasons in the league, finishing up his career in 2009 with the Oakland A's. He is a career .313/.361/.521 player, who spent 8 plus seasons in Boston, a year with the Cubs, and three seasons with the Dodgers. He flirted with hitting .400 in 2000 ending the season with a .372 batting average. - link
