Today's Early Observations at ST

Today’s ST Observations:

-the Rotoworld report that Jose Reyes might miss the opening day game brings back the fragility of this guy from last year. Is it my imagination, or is there any chance that Jose is just a lttle bit of a woosie? God forbid I throw that out here, but after observing him in the clubhouse and on the field these past four spring trainings, he sure is one pampered young man.

(update: - Omar teleconferenced a timetable of 2-8 weeks before Jose returns)

-the hope is the Mets won’t go shopping for a new temporary shortstop. The season is young and both Alex Cora and Anderson Hernandez are totally capable of holding down the fort until Reyes returns.

- the keeping of Jenrry Mejia in the ST makes all the sense in the world to me since I’ve always considered him a closet closer. I’ve sat behind home plate a number of times while he has pitched and, frankly, he has one and a half pitches… no, make that one and two halfs… killer fastball cutter that rises and you see once every five years… and half a curve and half a changeup. Is he ready this year? Hell no, but why not start the conversion now in spring, ship him to AAA in April instead of AA, as a closer, and tell him to stay near the phone.

-nice to see OF Mike Cameron on the Tradition Field again. I still miss this guy. He was one of the Mets that made the chemistry work and they should never have dumped him and Cliff Floyd when they did.

SP Mike Pelfrey kept up the good unity thing and gave up three runs in the first inning. It would be nice to see someone come out of the box soon.
