Cutnpaste: - Xorge Carillo, Zach Wheeler, Jeurys Familia, Darin Gorski,

10-7-11: - http://www.metsminorleagueblog.com/season-review-short-season-catchers  - The Mets 14th round pick this June, Xorge Carillo made his professional debut for Brooklyn on July 4. Carillo, who turned 22 in April, has been drafted four times, by the Jays (2007), Indians (2009), Padres (2010) and then the Mets. He didn’t hit much at all – .217/.298/.304 in 104 PA. On the other hand, the good news is that he controlled the strike zone well – nine walks against just 11 strikeouts, with a very low BABIP of .231. He’s probably destined for Savannah to start 2012.

Zack Wheeler, RHP, 21 (31 K’s, five walks in six starts for Class A St. Lucie): The return in the Carlos Beltran deal. Might have a higher ceiling than Harvey, but still raw and probably a year behind.

The 22-year old starting pitcher has always had an exciting arm but he put everything together in a 2011 season where he posted a 2.90 ERA while getting his first exposure to Double-A hitters. He also managed well over a strikeout per inning while shoring up his once shaky command and allowing just a .228 average against. But the reason scouts really love him is his projectable 6'3" frame paired with his extremely strong repertoire, which features a mid-to-upper-90s fastball as well as a wipeout slider and an improved change. Expect to see Familia not only climb to the very top of Mets' farm system rankings but to the upper tier of national prospect rankings too as he possesses the much-coveted True Ace potential.

10-12-11: - http://baseballinstinct.com/2011/10/12/prospect-instinct-darin-gorski-lhp-new-york-mets  - His .270 BABIP and his 3.18 FIP both indicate that there is already some regression to the mean that will take place for Darin Gorski. He was a bit lucky on both counts. Add in that he will leave the FSL, he will begin to face more patient hitters and he will be 24 when he enters 2012 spring training and you have a very limited upside for the big lefty. If all breaks right and he’s able to master the changeup and work more exclusively lower in the zone then he does have an upside of a back of the rotation starter. Unfortunately, his downside, if he can’t make it long term as a starter, is falling off of the map. Because while we now know that he’s more successful as a starter, we know this because he’s not very successful as a reliever. 2012 will be very telling for Gorski as he enters Double-A. If he can continue anywhere near his 2011 performance he could be in Flushing by 2013. I just don’t know if that’s going to happen and I’m not in the crowd that has the confidence to say that it’s possible
