Mack’s 25-man: - 2B Daniel Murphy

I’ve followed a lot of minor league prospects that come with the reputation of being a “bat”. Most fizzle out. Some don’t. Daniel Murphy is one of them.

Murphy would probably be an all-star in the American League. He hit .366 for the three years in college. He hit .295 as a minor leaguer and has hit .292 as a major leaguer. And he does all this for $422,000 a year.

His natural position is third base which he doesn’t get to play that often anymore. All his other positions are unnatural.

He has had some of the most unlucky injuries in the organization. Luckily, none have reduced his hitting ability, though it would be nice to see him play an entire season. Remember, he was the 8th leading hitter in the National League when he went down in 2011.

Yes, his talents would be best suited in the AL, but he’s currently untradeable. The 2012 Mets can’t afford to not have this bat in the lineup. With Jose gone (my premise), and Tejada now on short, Murph will become the full time second baseman and will bat second in the lineup.

Lineup:  Blank, Murphy, Wright, Davis, Duda, Bay, Blank, Tejada, Pitcher

That’s nine down, 16 to go.
