William James: Hey Mack and Co. It’s been a while, grad school and work has me too busy, but Ihope all is well. Anyway let's talk baseball. It's increasingly looking like Reyes will sign somewhere else and if it is the Marlins, we will not receive any significant compensation. Wright should be looked into being traded. Earlier in the off season the rumor was the Rockies will go hard for Wright. If this is the case, Pomeranz and Nolan Arenado, is this a fair trade? And it helps us on two fronts.... Thoughts?
Mack: Hey William. Boy, you’re late on both these two subjects. I will comment on a possible Wright trade. Anything is possible, but I think the Mets will keep him. The new dimensions of the field are solely based on increasing his production. Baring any major injury, I expect the Mets to tack on three more years between now and the time his current contract runs out. But, that’s just me, today.
Charles Thompson: Unfortunately David Wright's prime years might be past us at the point when the Mets might finally be ready to compete. It makes all the sense in the world for the Mets and for Wright to be traded to a team that has a better chance of winning now then the Mets do. He has earned a chance to play for something other than the future of the Mets organization. So yes, I'd take Pomeranz and Arenado in a heartbeat. Possibilities for more? Yes, but only if Wright's back to his old self, with numbers to match next July.
Christopher Soto: I wouldnt say that we won't get significant compensation. Too much fuss is made about getting a second round pick instead of a first round pick and Im not sure why. A majority of MLB Amatuer Drafts are at least 2-3 rounds deep in top potential talent and many teams can find very high quality players even in the later rounds due to "signability". As for Wright for Pomeranz and Arenado, I think it would be an ideal trade but one that wont happen. Wright's trade fail is low at the moment due to his contract (only 1 year left if he is traded) and poor production in the past few seasons. Plus Im not sure how many people realize the log jam the minor league teams are going to have at SP at the upper levels in 2012. By all means this is not a bad problem at all but if your going to bring in additional top quality SP arms then you of course want them to start. In AAA we have (expected) Harvey, Familia, Mejia, Schwinden, McHugh, Stinson, Carson, and Cohoon already. Add in any AAAA depth players we bring in via free agency and guys are going to start pitching in levels lower than they should be at or in a bullpen role thus slowing their development. In AA you have Wheeler, Edgin, Holt, Allen, Fuller, Owen off the top of my head.

I would not say getting a really good prospects for David is out of the question come July. The Giants gave up Wheeler (our new numero uno prospect) for Beltran and he couldn't even be offered arbitration. Some team comes along, right in the thick of things in July, David is batting 310, 17 HR, 65 RBI (which is all very possible) , the Mets are not contended and boom...Sandy pulls the trigger and two very good prospects are heading to Binghamton. You could even downgrade Wrights numbers a little and it could still work out if a few teams are in on him. What if A-Rod continues to break down, Yanks loose him for the season and they need a good bat down the stretch at third? Perfect match right there and they gots the prospects. Million possibilities. Sandy is a trigger man. When he's sitting on an asset in their walk year, that trigger is cocked.

David is the best the Mets have and all the GMs know that.
They also are all in Milwaukee in the same hotel.
Thats my point...that hes worth a good package.
But, if Wright is hitting .310 with 17 HR why would the Mets trade him?
The point would be to trade him now because the Mets feel he won't be worth the money he'll want in the future. If he returns to the Wright we got to know until 2009, he should stay.
