Gary McDonald - Thanks T.C. And Other Musings

Goodbye, Terry Collins and, thank you.  Thank you for giving your heart and soul to the game you love so much.  Thank you for seven years of ups and downs and surprises.  Thank you for holding this team together and taking it to the World Series.  And thank you for showing how to act and perform in this City when everyone wants your head.  You were a class act to the very end.

It’s not easy.  It’s not easy being a Mets fan.  If it was everyone would be doing it.  Of course, if the team wins, the fan base multiples but, I’m talking about that.  I’m talking about the hardcore, 27.5 games out, still wearing the colors and watching the games in person, or on TV fans.  It’s not easy.  I know, I’ve been doing it since the beginning and I’m still here no matter what.   So now 2017 is done and we look forward to 2018 and hope.

The cleaning up of the Mets organization has begun with the departure of Ray Ramirez, Dan Warthan, coaches getting permission to talk with other clubs, no protocol with regards to medical staff, Collins named Special Assistant to the General Manager, a “major change” to the hierarchy of the Las Vegas 51’s.  Perhaps the most interesting point to watch will be the Vegas situation.  For years, the Mets were very high on Pedro Lopez as a manager.  After a year at Vegas it seems that relationship has soured as Sandy Alderson is not happy about the preparation of players for the Major Leagues.  Maybe Sandy is having second thoughts  about his treatment of Wally Backman and I’m sure Backman is kicking himself for burning all bridges that lead to the New York Mets.  That being said we have seen stranger reconciliations  in the past.

David Wright underwent a laminotomy procedure on his lower back Thursday in Los Angeles, the team announced.

A laminotomy is a "minimally invasive" procedure "designed to relieve a compressed nerve in the back of the spinal cord," according to the Laser Spine Institute.

Wow, how much more will he take before he decides it is time to hang ‘em up.  He deserves every opportunity to come back but at age 34 you have to eventually get tired of the constant rehab and get no pay back for it all.  Good luck to David it would sure be nice to see him back in action.

Until next time….

Wright is beginning to remind me of Grady Sizemore, another immense talent whose career was ended prematurely due to multiple injuries.

I will always love and admire David Wright for his contributions to this organization but I wish he would bow out graciously like Mattingly did in ‘95
