New York Mets Top 10 Prospects Updated

Glassey - @conorglassey
Look at the
colleges for MLB playoff starting pitchers today: Old Dominion, Stetson,
Oregon, Northwestern, & Florida Gulf Coast.
Two things
stand out:
1. Players
come from everywhere. Scouts will find you.
2. Go to a
school where you can play. Nobody gets better on the bench.

This is
definitely a season I will never forget. Thank you everyone for all your
support this year! I can’t wait to get going for next season!

2. Jarred
Kelenic | OF | R —> Kelenic has a good plan at the plate, as well as
a controlled, short swing that is quick to the ball. He also appears willing to
use the whole field at times. A 2018 first rounder out of high school, he
acclimatized quickly to pro ball and is said to have great makeup, which should
help him get full value out of his tools. I’m not sold on his power potential
but he could hit for average, get a healthy number of walks, steal bases and
play above-average defense.
More cuts
per www.MiLB.com –
P Trent Johnson – The 22/yr. old was a 16th round pick in 2016… pitched for four Mets affiliates over three years, producing a collective 5.88-ERA. Only a 5.96 SO9.
P Ronald Sanchez – Sanchez was signed out of the Dominican system in 2012. He pitched this past season for Brooklyn and Columbia, producing a 7.06/1.80 stat line. His best season was 2016 for the GCL-Mets: 5.23/1.60. Sanchez has consistently underperformed throughout his Mets career.
PC - Ed Delany |
P Taylor Henry – Boy, I really thought we had a live one here. Henry came out of Centenary College (LA) as a 4-year senior (strike one). He was a 25th round draft pick in 2015 and cut his professional teeth the same year with eight appearance for Kingsport (4.15). Then, came a remarkable 2016 when he went 24-appearances, 2-1, 1,71, 1.17 for Brooklyn.
P Aaron Ford – This one is quite puzzling. The 24-year old Ford was drafted in the 21st round in 2017 draft. That’s two drafts ago. Not much time to prove one self. So, what does he do this year for Columbia? 19-appearances, 2-2, 2.02, 1.09, 32-Ks in 26.2-IP, only 2 walks. Am I missing something here? I had Ford as one of my top 50 prospects and always referred to him as a blue prospect. He did hit the DL in July, but he came off in August. Someone needs some splainin’ to do here…
P Seth Davis – The 25-year old was drafted in the 29th round of the 2015 draft. His four year stat line, for four teams, was 3-4, 2.70, in 68 appearances. This includes a 2016 2.31-ERA for Columbia. Boy, it’s sure getting hard to keep a job around here.
P Ricky Knapp – The 26-year old (notice a pattern here?) was an 8th round pick in the 2013 draft. He went 3.88/1.34 over 6 seasons and went 3.18 this season for GCL/Rumble in between 2 stints on the DL. It looks like Ricky’s time just ran out with 6 years in the system.
P Adam Atkins – The 25-year old was an 18th round pick in the 2016 draft. He had less than 3 years to prove his worth so he went out and produced a combined 2.45-ERA in 85-aps. Again, what am I missing here? Injury move?
Some of these cuts really make no sense to me.
The Phillies were already the most confusing team in baseball, and their collapse isn’t helping –
“I still believe the Phillies are
on the right track, though. I picked them to win the NL Wild Card before the
season, and their awful September hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm that much,
especially when you consider how much money they’ll have available, and how
they’ve advertised their willingness to use it. The Phillies will rise again.”
Mack
– I’m different from a lot of you. I suffer from serious tunnel vision. I never
look over my shoulder and care what other teams are doing. I am totally focused
on the team I root for and I am disappointed if they don’t finish their season
with a 1.000 W-L percentage.
I
could care about the Phillies. Hell, I couldn’t name you five players over
there. Is Richie Ashburn still
playing for them?

We want some mora Zamora
Kelenic will do a "Nimmo" and show the "experts" he has plus power someday not too far off.
Ford and other pitchers that did well must lack the mother's milk of pitchers, velocity.
Phils suck - there, said it.
High school bats (Kelenic) just don't have the experience to move as fast as college boys (Conforto).
That Washington right fielder was a college boy, right?
@Tom -- if the Phils suck, what does that say about the Mets? The last time I looked they finished will ahead of us.
I like velocity as much as the next person but I always found WHIP a better indicator of good pitching because if you keep people off base you have greater propability of success than someone like Gerson Bautista.
Reese, one thing about Bautista, he has little pitching experience because he was constantly hurt initially in the Boston organization. Give the kid some rope.
With all due respect, I'm sick of giving Mets relievers some rop
My 2019 pen would still have Lugo... Drew Smith... Gsellman... and Zamora
Rope
Mack, what exactly did these kids do that you are sick of giving them rope? How long has each of them actually been active? A month and a half or two? Is it their fault Alderson didn’t have any real option in the bullpen?
That comment to me screams of impatience. I beg your forgiveness for being so forward, but these kids have failed because in a month or so they weren’t lights out? Some of them have promise, and some of them don’t have much, but these kids weren’t the reason Blevins sucked, Swarzak sucks, Ramos sucked, Gsellman was up and down, and Sewald kept getting chances.
Texas -
I'm confused.
You are saying the same relievers suck that I am saying suck.
I'm not talking about relievers in the minors here.
Mack, I side with Texas here - Bautista did not have a great year - but I am sure he learned a whole lot after only getting past A ball in 2018. Growing pains in 2018, dividends in 2019. Kilome too.
Reese, one person who had great career minors WHIP? 0-13 Paul Sewald. So...Velocity is not everything, but how much better would Paul be if he threw 5 MPH faster? A lot.
Mack, true point on Conforto vs. Kelenic so far, but I am betting we see good power out of Kelenic in 2019, and serious power in 2020, as he approaches being MLB ready .

You mean Reese, right?

Mets should seriously consider making a run for JT Realmuto. However, they will have to come up with valuable enough trade pieces to possibly make this worthwhile trade. That's why putting together a 40 man roster this soon is not necessarily a good spending of time.
Players like maybe Gimenez, Lugo, Cecchini, Gsellman, and Dunn could be atop that list. Then you will have to reformulate your roster to compensate for these losses.
The positions most important and needing address in this off season:
1. Catcher
2. First Base
3. Lefty Starter
4. Third Base
5. Corner Outfielder (Should Yoenis Cespedes not be a go only)
6. Definite Closer or Set-Up
Great AL and NL Finals now.
Boston vs. Houston and Brewers vs. Dodgers
This is truly great baseball. There is much to learn from here.
Best new Manager between the Red Sox, Mets, and Yankees?
A: One time NY Met Alex Cora and by some margin. Yes, he had the best team and that certainly does help. But Alex has things going for him the others do not yet have. He handles the players and press smoothly. He has almost a clairvoyant's ability to make player personnel moves at any time that almost always work to perfection for the team. He doesn't get ruffled and always has a smile on his face. He is a rookie manager with a veteran managers innate know-how.
Daniel Zamora is one of the most unique and intriguing Mets pitchers that we have had here on this team in a very longtime.
I see him with a limitless upside at this early on juncture to his career. That sweeping slider amazes me. With proper tutoring and practice, Daniel could easily one day soon be an All Star.
Another young Mets pitcher that really begin to gel later second half, was late inning reliever Tyler Bashlor. He just fits the role and has two really good pitches now working for him. I see his potential as limitless as well.
Trying to prioritize Mets Off Season Goals
1. Deciding which MiLB Mets players are or may be ready for the parent club in 2019.
2. Instead of bringing in a few pretty good outside players from other organizations, maybe this time concentrate on that one really good player that could change this team in a most optimal way.
3. Getting the bullpen really respectable again. Longtime coming, but that time is well at hand now. May not need "The Spider Man" or Andrew Miller to do that either, although each would help. Majority of pieces could be within this organization already. But finalizing their ability for here would be paramount important first.
4. Finding out early enough, where Yoenis Cespedes stands health wise with the two foot operations soon to be completed.
5. Seeing if David Wright would be interested in coaching. This man could be another Alex Cora if he where interested in this. And David is a Met for life.
