St. Lucie 4 - Florida 2



PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 14, 2019) – The St. Lucie Mets took the rubber game against the Florida Fire Frogs 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at First Data Field.

Luc Rennie became the first Mets starting pitcher to record a quality start. He cruised through six innings, scatting four hits while walking one and striking out four. He allowed one run on a solo homer. Rennie improved to 2-0 in two starts. He has given up just one run over 11 innings for a 0.82 ERA.

The Mets scored three runs in the fourth inning to take command. Carlos Cortes belted a RBI double to put the Mets up 1-0. Nick Meyer and Blake Tiberi added run-scoring singles in the frame for a 3-0 lead.

Florida got on the board in the sixth inning when Drew Lugbauer hit a long home run to right field. Rennie bounced back to get a strikeout to finish his day.

Mets reliever Briam Campusano fired two perfect innings with four strikeouts.

Marcel Renteria gave up a double and run in the ninth inning but struck out three batters to record his first save.

Cortes, Meyer and Jeremy Vasquez collected two hits apiece for the Mets. Tiberi extended his hitting streak to eight games with his RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Mets (7-4) travel to the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach on Monday to take on the Fort Myers Miracle. The contest is the sixth annual Jackie Robinson Celebration Game to mark the 72nd anniversary of Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier. First pitch is scheduled for 6:42 p.m. as an ode to Robinson’s retired No. 42.

St Lucie gets the dead bat of Todd Frazier out of the line up and picks up the pace.

Are the Mets going to start sitting .382 Jeff McNeil or the hot JD Davis to give Mr. 200 playing time?
