Last night, imagine if you went into the 11th inning in Philly, heart of the order coming up, and Jeurys Familia was called in to close. What would you do?
I'd be concerned for my health - high levels of aggravation can lead to cardiovascular anomalies - so, I'd shut off the TV and do something else, figuring the game would be blown - turn it back on a half hour later and most likely find out that I was right.
Who needs the aggravation? Not me.
But no, understanding that fans want to NOT be aggravated, but rather hoot and hollar in delight, Brodie Van Wagenen came through with some fortuitous decision making, and we therefore have Sir Edgar, the Duke of Queens.

Sir Edwin came in for the 11th. A royally few 11 pitches, hitters utterly overmatched, 3 quick Ks, go to sleep HAPPY.
Sir Edwin is, simply put, a BULLPEN SUPER BEAST.
Eight games so far, 6.2 IP, 1 run, 13 Ks. And SIX SAVES by tax filing day, April 15.
So, in 2018 and the first 10th of 2019, Sir Edwin of Queens has done this amazing stuff:
81 G, 80 IP, 137 K, 47 H, 1.91, SIXTY THREE SAVES.
BULLPEN ROYALTY. METS MVP SO FAR.
The Yanks had Mariano Rivera - how fortunate.
The Mets have Sir Edwin of Queens - how fortunate.
DON'T FORGET THE KILLER SQUIRREL:
As "Jay Reese" Familia pitched a brutal 8th inning last night, coughing up a one run lead, Jeff McNeil prevented an avalanche with a tremendous stop on a blistering grounder that he turned into a DP. Brooks Robinson would have stood and applauded - no hyperbole, no exaggeration.
And then Jeff turned almost the same play in the 9th of a tie game to get the Mets into extra innings.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, McNeil had 3 hits and is up to .402.
Yes, FOUR OH TWO.
Anyone who sits him even for a game to get Todd Frazier in a game needs to see a good shrink.
Well, they could always sit J.D. Davis to play Frazier - except J.D. is blistering hot, with a hit and walk in 4 PAs last night, so that would be - DUMB.
I'd get Frazier in the line up to give Rosario and Cano an occasional blow...but only once Todd shows he can hit. That, however, might not happen for some time.
On another happy note, Brandon Nimmo has bounced back extremely well from his frigid season start. 3 walks AND his 3rd homer last night. Despite his awful season start, an OBP of .379 - frankly, WOW!
And the Mets continue to average over 6 runs per game.
Last night, 2018 Cy Young candidate Aaron Nola found out what the Mets' prior opponents have discovered: this Mets offense is POTENT.
Let's see what we can do to keep this 10-6 season rolling tonight.

Interesting stat on Edgar...386 career minor league innings...just one save in 2 tries. 71 of his 89 minor league appearances were starts.
Also odd is that he "only" fanned 409 guys in those 386 minor league innings - a far lower rate than what he accomplishes in the big leagues.
The return of respect for the Mets pitching staff had to start somewhere and maybe it starts here?
Todd Frazier can always hawk T-Shirts.
Mack, if we had not gotten Diaz, we might well already be 6-10, not 10-6. Terrific move.
Totally agree except pitching him as much as we would like to will burn him out..... WE NEED KIMBREL!!!!! Our BP NEEDS another beast to take the weight off "The Beast" as how awesome would it be to be able to go to EITHER Diaz or Kimbrel to close it out and not worry about burnout...AWESOME now Brodie just do it and lets nail down a playoff spot NOW!!!!
Edwin would have to be willing to turn over closing spot to Kimbrel, I would think. Would he? If so, do it.
