2019 Draft - Mets Pick 23.688 - P Nick MacDonald - Florida International




With the 688th pick (23rd round) in the 2019 draft, the New York Mets picked 4-year junior pitcher, Nick MacDonald, from Florida International.

FIU Sports - Junior (2019): Appeared in 14 games, starting 14… Went 4-5 with a 3.91 ERA… Pitched 76 innings allowing 97 hits against 68 strikeouts with a .312 BAVG… Went six plus innings in seven of his starts… Pitched seven innings of one-run ball with six hits and four Ks against Florida Atlantic on 3/30… Tied his career-high with nine strikeouts on 5/11 against Southern Miss.

Sophomore (2018): Appeared in fourteen games, started 11... Was 3-4 with a 4.26 ERA. . Pitched 67.2 innings allowing 66 hits, 69 strikeouts and .266 AVG. . . Had eight starts pitching five innings or more... Pitched seven innings allowing four hits, no earned runs, three walks and four strikeouts in a win against UAB (4/8)...  

7Pitched six inning allowing four hits, no runs, two walks and eight strikeouts in a win against FAMU (2/27)... Player in the Cape Cod League over the summer for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

Panther Now - In his first season for Panthers, right-hander Nick MacDonald not only established himself as one of the best pitchers on the FIU roster, but one of the best pitchers in Conference USA.

MacDonald was one of three players for the Panthers to earn Freshman All-American honors. The other two players being right-hander Tyler Myrick and infielder Javier Valdes.

The right-hander managed to post a (7-3) record in his freshman season, while also earning a 4.29 ERA. In nine of his thirteen starts, he held opposing batters to three runs or less.

Throughout the season, he pitched in 71 1/3 innings, allowed 67 hits, 34 earned runs, walked only 30 and struck out 68.
