There are many measures of an organization's ability to build a successful major league franchise.
One is team offense.
How are the lower Mets minors teams hitting? Let's peek:
Columbia - A ball:
74 games: .226/.291/.331, but .260 over the last 35-40 games.
Brooklyn - high rookie league ball:
12 games: .194/.255/.301 - Last in hitting.
Ahh, Brooklyn teams often start mighty slow offensively.
Kingsport - mid level rookie league ball:
9 games: .274/.358/.423 - first in hitting so far.
GCL Mets - lower level rookie league ball:
Just 3 games: .245/.348/.457 - so far, so good.
DSL - kiddie league:
There are 45 teams, and the Mets have two of them.
They're hitting 4th (nice) and 29th (not as nice) so far; both are about 20 games in:
DSL 1 .271/.366/.384
DSL 2 .240/.336/.334
It is early to draw conclusions - but hitting seems largely lackluster so far.

Professor Mackade's disappointment over some of the younger pitchers MiLB outing of recent was well understood,i.e. Gilliam and Kay in particular. But the one that got me the most was Chris Flexen's brief outing last night. It caught me by surprise actually, because he had been doing so very well. He was becoming almost automatic, which you want all your pitchers to be. But then that nasty reality check showed up. Darn, darn, darn.
But it happens and life goes on. No one is perfect, no one "automatic" I suppose. So as fans we get over it and hope tomorrow is a much brighter day. It is all part of this game we all love to follow.
So I say here now, let's win the NL East Pennant and WS anyway. Like our 1969 NY Mets heroes did anyway. Right? And they were how many games out of first place this time in 1969?
Stranger things have happened. Suggestions to follow.
Noting first here that opinions are like, well, you know what and everyone really does have one I think anyway, I offer these up to you now...my own opinions. You may want to sit down first, and grab a brew.
I am beyond enthusiastic about the new young core forming here now in NY Mets Land. The two new All Stars in Jeff McNeil and Peter Alonso representing the 2019 NY Mets (two guys I think someone in NY Mets' management may have stated this past ST that neither player may break camp with the parent NY Mets club. Oops! I am not condemning, it was just sort of ironic and funny.)
With Jeff and Peter, this core has other superb younger players just now beginning to make a true name in MLB for themselves. They are namely 3B JD Davis, LF Dominic Smith, SS Amed Rosario, and who knows here with the back injury thing, but maybe even CF Brandon Nimmo. And Wilson Ramos and Tomas Nido are both hitting well now too. Seven positions covered, one to go. Please hang onto these Jeff and Brodie.
This is the new NY Mets core. And it is good.
How sweet it is!
So what next Einstein?
Well, SP. Ideas coming to mind address the up/down glider ride Steven Matz remains on. Unglue the man. This cannot be much fun for him either.
Or, better yet try him in the lefty relief set-up role.
Look, it's illogical for the Mets to continue going from 98/99 mph starters to a right handed dominated throwing bullpen all of whom pretty much throw between 93-95 mph. Right?
So why not use Steven Matz (a hard throwing left-handed pitcher) in a set-up relief role? See my point here, the Mets have no really good left-handed relievers to do this. If Steven could embrace this (oh boy, expect a volcano with that) new defined role, the Mets might just greatly benefit. By this move, the Mets easily could win more games, and Steven himself actually extend out his MLB pitching career that has fluttered now too long starting.
Who then takes his starting slot?
Maybe one from the Flexen, Oswalt, H. Gonzales or Uceta grouping, thus allowing Kay and Peterson to stay on course in their respective development targeting a 2020 arrival time.
I get the overall impression that the deGrom, Syndergaard, and Wheeler trio will be fine now with Phil Regan as their new pitching coach, someone I think they already know from Mets' MiLB, if I am not mistaking here.
So we have the positional players and the starting pitching mapped out for the second half of 2019, at least somewhat anyway. The Mets "do have" several trade options and players here now they could conceivably move. But the above mentioned players are keepers.
So relief pitching is next up.
As Professor Mackade illustrated in his article today, Gilliam was one of the best MiLB relief arms who recently struggled. Maybe he stumbled, or maybe there was a Mets scout there he knew about or something. Who knows. Or maybe he too is only human like the rest of us. Don't you hate that?
Anyway, the bullpen is pretty much a mess right now still. It's been a proverbial turnstile of new jersey names and numbers. Has John Franco reproduced a son yet? Can Tim McGraw throw a baseball? We need help here!
Okay, okay, calm down. We all know that the bullpen isn't there yet. It's in transition. Metamorphosis may be a better word. Twenty-five year old righty Edwin Diaz looked pretty darn effective yesterday. Add him to the core.
I have also heard that Jeurrys Familia may not be too far away from returning here healthy. So in this idea, Steven Matz makes three, providing his head does not explode (like in the movie "Scanners") upon being told about such an idea as this one. It could happen. Then maybe Daniel Zamora, Chris Mazza, and/or Tyler Bashlor. Making five.
Then I might take a look at Matt Blackham and Kyle Gilliam up here, just to see how far along they really are in their respective development. Adding in one more lefty reliever from outside the organization via a trade (to go along with Steven Matz) does make some sense now. Then the Mets could have Zamora, Matz, and this one more lefty reliever from another team. Maybe a lefty closer to go along with right handed Edwin Diaz.
Opinion now over, as the sky opens up and joy returns to MetsNation.
I just wanna' win. I cannot stand being under .500% every season with these kinds of really good young players here now. Two All Stars. Woe. It is so good!
Trade deadline quick ideas: Andrew Miller, Charlie Blackmon, Lucas Giolitto. Dreaming perhaps. But so what! And let Jerry and Elaine out of prison, for goodness sakes alive! What is that?
