Mack - 2019 Mets Transactions, Kudos, and Comments

Saturday, June 8th

AA-Binghamton has released OF Dario Pizzano.
Pizzano hit .226 in 115 at-bats, with 3-HR and 15-RBI. He also was placed on the IL recently and I thought you couldn’t release someone this way. What do I know?
There simply was no room on the B-Mets 25-man now that Quinn Brodey was promoted there.

AA-Binghamton place OF Kevin Kaczmarski on IL, effective 6/6.
Very sad. This kid has proven he can hit even at the AAA level, but, because he lacks pop, he simply is never going to get a shot on this team.

3B Jaylen Palmer was promoted from the GCL-Mets to Rookie-Kingsport.

Released on Twitter by uber K-Port fan, Clay Ramsey. The 18-year old out of Holy Cross (NY) HS, hit .310 last season, in 87-AB, for the GCL-Mets.

           Kudos –

                 DSL-2 RF Dyron Campos: 2-5, 2-R, .310

     DSL-2 SS Cesar Berbesi: 4-5, 3-R, 2-RBI, .393

     DSL-1 SS Luis Castillo: 3-3,2-R, RBI, .667

     DSL-1 RP Brandon Sanchez: 3.1-IP, 0-R, 0.00

AAA-Syracuse 2B, Luis Guillorme: 3-4, .305

AAA-Syracuse RF, Arismendy Alcantara: 2-4, .340

Can’t hurt to move to the outfield. Could be is late season ticket to Queens.

AA-Binghamton SP, Anthony Kay: 5.1-IP, 0-R, 3-H, 9-K, 1.49, 94-K

I only have one small criticism about Kay. He just can’t get himself consistently through seven innings.

Again, nothing left to do at this level.

AA-Binghamton RP, Adonis Uceta: 1.2-IP, 0-R, 1.65

Sunday, June 9th

RP Luc Rennie was transferred from A+ St. Lucie to AA-Binghamton

C Dustin Houle was activated off of the AA IL

           Kudos –
                 A+ St. Lucie RP, Jaison Vilera: 4-IP, 1-ER, 2.25

A+ St. Lucie P, Darwin Ramos: 2-IP, 0-R, 2-K, 1.00

AAA-Syracuse 1B, Dilson Herrera – 2 HRs in DH           (11)

There was a tremendous amount of debate back in the day whether or not Herrera would develop into a pop bat. The sad part is, yes, he is, but it’s too late.

Your days in the game are short enough and you need to splash early if you want to be noticed in this game.

AA-Binghamton SP, Luc Rennie:  5-IP, 0-R, 9-K, 0.00

The 25-year old is trying to excel at some level in this organization. Last year, he went 4.07 in 10-G, 9-ST for Columbia. Earlier this year, he went 4.25 in 11-G, 9-ST for St. Lucie. For some reason, all this mediocre pitching continues to get him promoted and he has a clean slate here in his first start at the AA level.

Monday, June 10th

AA-Binghamton promoted SP, Anthony Kay, to AAA-Syracuse

No argument from me on this one, Frankly, I think it should happened about three starts ago.

     AA-Binghamton promoted RP/CL, Ryley Gilliam, to AAA-Syracuse

This one has me scratching my head.

We all know how this kid was smokin’ through the levels since coming out of Clemson. And then came pitching in the prospect Eastern League.

Gilliam has a meh 4.34-ERA in 12 games at this level, but it actually gets worse. He’s given up nine earned runs
in his last 10 games, but ALL OF THEM in three games where he pitched a total of 4.2 innings. 9 in 4.2 is not prospect numbers and I wondered out loud early this month on the blog if he was being rushed too fast. Now, he’s on the AAA.

But the Mets always make great decisions about pitching, right?

           Kudos –

                 DSL-2 P, Erickson Ortega: 2-IP, 0-R, 0.00

DSL-1 C, Endy Rodriguez: 4-5, 2-HR, 5-RBI, .800, 3.000-OPS

Hey! Who needs Francisco Alvarez when we have this kid in the chain. The 19-year old hit .261 in DSL ball last season (115-AB)

DSL-1 RF, Freddy Valdez: 2-5, .400, .800-OPS

DSL-1 SP, Benito Garcia: 3-IP, 0-R, 0.00

A-Columbia SP, Simeon Woods-Richardson: 5.0-IP, 0-R, 8-K (5.36)

      This is huge.

We were beginning to think we lost this kid.
His ERA on 4-25 was 1.23. And then began a 6-game period that produced 25-ERs, in 20.2-IP.

He now has strung two 5-inning games that he hasn’t given up one run (5.36).

Look. The kid’s 18. He has now pitched in 20 pro games at an ERA clip of 4.74. Through all this, he also has struck out 86 batters in 62.2 innings pitched (11.91 SO/9).

I have placed him solidly back at the Columbia SP1 slot.

I still think SWR can be Dwight Gooden II. His last two outings? Early Gooden.

I watched some MILB TV and Kaczmarski does not look physically imposing. It puzzles me - I would be in the gym daily until people were confusing me with Mike Trout. McNeil is not hitting many HRs this year - but he is a prime example of a guy who added bulk to his tremendous advantage. Kacz is not hitting - maybe he feels he blew his shot last year and is depressed. His 2019 hitting has been really disappointing.

Emerson and Lake were thrilled to hear about Jaylen Palmer's assignment at Kingsport. Kidding aside, I thought they'd start him in Brooklyn, but the fact that he does not turn 19 for 6 weeks have them going a little slower.

Luc Rennie had some pitching performance in his AA debut. Encore, Ecore!

Ryley Gilliam - Jake's #'s weren't dazzling as they sped him through the minors - maybe Gilliam is that good, and they trust he can handle a few bumps. When I saw him, he had fine velocity.

I just wonder how Matt Blackham feels, who is 26 and pitching great again, this time in AA. Get him to AAA, too. Maybe they expect an All Star nod for Matt and then will promote him to AAA. 12.5 Ks per 9 innings for his career.

Villines had a horrible outing the other night but it looks lie he Gilliam and Nogosek are now the power trio in AAA
