Tony Plate: A-Rod Adds Players to The Mix

The Mets sale situation has really become different.

First, it has been a soap opera for a while since February, and now it looks like it may become a little bit of a tug of war between A-Rod and Steve Cohen. A-Rod has added players of different sports to the mix to help him buy the Mets.

The list consists of NFL players, Travis Kelce, DeMarco Murray, Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher and NBA player Bradley Beal. A few of the best athletes in their respective sports.

It surprised me that this group would be added to the mix, because I just didn’t see it coming. Also, add Florida Panthers owner Vinny Viola and Vitamin Water co-founder Mike Repole to the A-Rod and J-Lo regime and all of a sudden Cohen, who also has the money, has some formidable competition.

I’m not surprised that A-Rod put this group together. Needless to say, he was ready. It puts him in a better position to buy the team with this new group in the picture.

A-Rod prepared himself quite well for a business opportunity like this, as he has attended high-profile investment conferences and has started his own investment firm, A-Rod Corp. He found success as a businessman recently.

The only thing that still isn’t clear is whether the Wilpons will include SNY in the deal now. This situation about whether to include SNY has gone on for quite some time. The Wilpons’ recently were thinking about including SNY in the deal when they thought Harris and Blitzer would be the buyers, because at that time they would have merged their other franchises onto one huge regional sports network.

On the other hand, when I came to a deal with the next person, SNY wasn’t mentioned.

In my opinion, they really didn’t want to include SNY as part of the deal at first. If you want to make a deal like this, you do what you have to do to come to an agreement to get things done. Currently, times are very tough. They’ve been losing money. The potential buyers can leverage the situation to buy the Mets for the lowest possible price, when and if there is a deal.

The Wilpons just want to focus on the future. They hope to find another potential buyer soon - and they may have now. We shall see.

Day by day, closer to the season and hopefully closer to the team's sale.

Can you imagine the difficulty a GM would have with this pack of Alpha males?

Ummm, how much do you think each person put up, $5 million? If hes $300 million short of Cohen hes gonna need a lot more people. This is equivalent to passing a cup to buy flowers for the widow, is that what we want? Will he have to sell more shares when we need to sign someone? Do you think we´ll be in on Betts? He´ll need to bring 400 people to do that.

This is not good news for Arod, They didnt bid on SNY because they cant afford it. You really dont want the ex-owner in control of your network. The extortion opportunities are probably whats keeping Fred alive...

I have nothing against Arod, but youd be better off going public (I dont know if you can do that or not) like the English clubs, then trying to raise private equity like this. All its doing is helping the grifter Wilpons raise the price. I dont think any of us wants that.

I think a deal will be made soon.
A GM will have difficulty since their is plenty of star power involved.
Richard, I agree, you don't want the ex-owner in control of your network.
The Wilpons won't raise the price, because they want to sell ASAP due to losing plenty of money to begin with.
