With the
Winter Leagues off for Christmas the last two days, here is a brief look at how
current Mets minor leaguers and former Mets are doing.
In the
Dominican Republic,
The biggest
name to make an appearance so far is Mets Top Rated prospect Ronny
Mauricio. However, he has batted just once and struck out. We will see if he gets more time later this
season.
Robel Garcia who the Mets claimed on waivers
from the Reds right after the season has been playing second base regularly for
Aguilas Cibaenas. He hit two home runs early this winter but has since cooled
down.
Minor
League Free Agent Catcher Bruce Maxwell has been catching for Los Toros Del
Este.
Newly
acquired Rule 5 Draft pick, RHP Jesus Reyes:
Also recently
required in the Rule 5 Draft Oscar
De La Cruz:
In Venezuela.
Mets Minor
League Free Agent Catcher David Rodriguez has been hitting real well while
also seeing time at 1B and as a DH:
Recently
resigned minor league free agent Wilfredo Tovar.
Always known for his glove at SS, Wilfredo has been hitting third some nights this
winter:
RHP Jaison Vilera:
RHP Cesar Loaiza:
RHP Yeizo Campos:
In Puerto
Rico:
Primera
Hora.com: “Johneshwy
Fargas is the hottest bat in the LBPRC. Fargas has played in 13 of
Yegüita's 14 games and has hit a hit in 12 games this year…the only one with an
offensive average above .400 in Puerto Rican winter ball…hitting .412 with 21
hits in 51 official at-bats. He is also the leader in RBIs with 16 and is
second in runs with 12.”
In
Australia, just two games were able to be played so far with all but RHP Adam Oller seeing action:
INF/OF Carlos Cortes:
SS Manny Rodriquez:
LHP Andrew Mitchell:
In the
Mexican Pacific League -
Mets Minor
League Catcher Juan Uriarte has also been playing LF as he gets
regular at bats after fighting injuries.
Here are
some of the former Mets and Minor League Mets playing this winter:
Former Met Pitching Prospect Marcos Molina:
Other players appearing this winter, Hunter Strickland, Antonio Bastardo, Tim Peterson, Jordany Valdespin, Raul Valdes, Dario Alvarez, Ramon Ramirez, Ronny Cedeno, Hector Santiago, Fernando Salas, Ex-Syracuse Met Ervin Santana, Ex-Binghamton Rumble Pony Matt Pobereyko, Ex-Binghamton Rumble Pony Joshua Torres, 2019 Mets Minor League Free Agent Pedro Payano, 2019 Mets Minor League Free Agent Francisco Rios, and 2019 Mets Minor League Free Agent Sebastian Elizalde.

Thanks for the list. It seems like, as a group, the ex-Mets are doing much better than the current ones.
I wouldn't mind bringing a few in to give depth at Syracuse.
Jesus is doing great, but it doesn't seem right that he has no saves. 😉
Very disappointing to me that Mauricio has just 1 AB. I hope he lives up to his hype. At 19, Soto was tearing up MLB pitching.
Jenrry Mejia has a very nice hits to innings ration.
Fargas and Rodriguez doing really well. Maxwell puzzling.
Carlos Cortes may be close to major league ready by the end of 2021 - but will there be room for him?
I wonder why Mark Vientos is not playing winter ball?
That is a good question Tom. The Winter Ball team officially released him right before the start of the season. It could be that he felt the Instructional League was enough or was worried about traveling during the pandemic.
I'm wondering why Nido isn't playing Winter ball.
That's a good question as well Bill. We have not heard much about him since he tested positive last summer. I will ask around and see what I can find out.
Edwin Diaz wants to play for the same team Fargas is on. He has asked the Mets permission to play. I have not heard if they granted it yet.
