300. Jackson Wentworth - RHP

Bio:

Height: 6-0

Weight: 185 lbs

Hits/Throws: R-R

Hometown: Urbandale, IA

School: Waukee

Wentworth works from a high 3/4's arm slot from a turn and throw delivery. High spin FB has seen a solid velocity uptick this summer and has touched 94 in the fall, sitting in the low-90's. His CB is his primary out pitch, with 2300-2500 RPM's on spin rate and good downer shape in the high-70's. His CH has come along nicely too, recently sitting mid-80's with solid fade.

 11-7-2020 - PG -

Jackson Wentworth (2021 Urbandale, IA) continued to tick up over the summer and culminated with him showing his best stuff the PG staff has witnessed down in the Fort. He held velocity in the 90-93/4 mph range with the fastball. The upper-70s curveball gets tough vertical break and is already a swing and miss pitch. His third offering, a fading changeup gives him a third above average offering. This could easily be the next Iowa prep righty that flies up draft boards as Carter Baumler did in June 2020.

 9-13-20 - PBR -

Wentworth, a Kansas State recruit, stole the show in the primetime late night Friday slot that featured draft talent on every field, and 20-plus MLB scouts in attendance. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-hander sports lean, defined strength across a wide-shouldered athletic frame, and that athleticism is seen throughout the delivery. Even paced and well-connected throughout the delivery, a controlled, continuous arm stroke leads to quick hand speed through the ball from a high ¾ slot. He pumped in strike after strike with an 88-92 fastball (90.4 mph avg. per Trackman) that he threw to all quadrants, and found success up in the zone thanks to an average RPM of 2398 and max close to 2600. What makes Wentworth so dynamic on the mound is his ability to pair the high-spin fastball with a sharp, tightly-spun 12/6 curveball. He tunnels the pitch exceptionally well at 75-77 with nearly 2700 RPM at its best in this showing. Remaining linear down the mound, Wentworth’s delivery provides for efficient movement patterns with no wasted movement. He was dominant in every facet of the game, striking out 14 over six innings without yielding a walk. The strong summer that the Iowa prep product turned in appears to be something he will continue building on.

Stats: 6.0 innings, 14K-0BB, 4H, 1ER

 PG -

Jackson Wentworth is a 2021 RHP/3B with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Urbandale, IA who attends Waukee. Medium athletic build with plenty of room to get stronger. Works from the stretch with a simple turn and throw delivery, can gather over the rubber better for more lower half involvement and drive, extended 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 91 mph, maintained his velocity well. Tunnels his curveball well with his fastball, gets over it well with good downer dept and tilt and shows feel for landing the pitch. Gets nice fading life on his change up. Starter arsenal with the ability to mix his pitches and throw strikes

Jackson Wentworth, RHP, Midsouth Prospects-Platinum

Wentworth had a strong summer and fall on the circuit and finished with an exclamation point in Fort Myers, where he showed off a full arsenal of pitches that at least flash above-average. He was up to 94 mph with the fastball, has plus projection on his curveball, and is advanced in his comfort with and feel for his changeup. He’s definitely a name to watch out of the Midwest in the spring.
