Good Morning. Happy Birthday Jose Vizcaino.  The Mets are confident they will agree with Lindor and Conforto as the clock ticks, Mets release Tommy Hunter, and Matt Harvey makes the O's.

No Mets Game yesterday.  The Mets will take on the Nationals tonight at 6PMDavid Peterson on the mound.  We will have coverage here later today on Mack's Mets.

Tim Healey Newsday:  With the clock ticking on Lindor and Conforto contract talks, Mets are prepared to spend big.  "’We have plenty of capacity,’ team president Sandy Alderson said in a recent interview…’But always having options and maintaining that flexibility is important’… In Alderson’s view, even the richest organizations must pick their spots. ‘Big-market teams typically have more choices available to them,’ Alderson said. ‘But you still have to be patient, you still have to be discerning. And you also have to have an eye on the future.’”

Rob Piersall MMO Exclusive: Marcus Stroman Talks Baseball, Life, and Everything In-Between. Among his comments on the off season moves was this: “Like I said, we have a ton of depth, I’ve never been on a team that has this much depth. I walk out of the clubhouse, Mallex Smith, Kevin Pillar, Albert Almora jr, it’s crazy man and these are just additions to what we already had. To the Conforto’s, to the McNeil’s, to the Nimmo’s, these are all additions so I love our squad and I’m very confident in every single one of our guys and I’m excited to play with all of them.”

SNY.TV: Could Mets get a Noah Syndergaard extension done using Lance McCullers' deal as roadmap? McCullers, 27, agreed to an extension worth $85 million over five years that will start with the 2022 season, per multiple reports…While Syndergaard has more upside than McCullers, he is a year older and is coming off Tommy John surgery (whereas McCullers already successfully returned from the procedure in 2020 after missing all of 2019).

Amazing Avenue: Dominic Smith will continue to make his impact felt—on the Mets and in Major League Baseball—in 2021. His defense probably won’t be great, but the Mets are still very lucky to have Dominic Smith on their team.

Mike Puma NY Post: Dave Eiland tip led to Jacob deGrom’s Mets star turn. “…at spring training in 2018…As camp began that spring, Dave Eiland, then the new Mets pitching coach, spoke with Jacob deGrom and delivered a message that resonated with the right-hander as he strived toward improvement: Don’t overcomplicate things.”

17 of the Mets top 30 players are 21 and under and MLB ranks the Mets 10th in that group of teams in terms of 21 and under. It's really their top 6 in that category that got them up to 10th. Kelenic seems truly highly regarded and is a main reason Seattle sits at # 2.

No Hunter, what can one do? We have other "hunters" who are bullpen-capable.

Liked the other team's exec who looked at the Mets line up and said "holy crap" - I hope they all show that reaction is fully warranted.

Extend Lindor and Conforto, or fans will be ticked.

Shohei Ohtani seems like a better hitter than Conforto. Just saying.

39 players left in camp. Final cuts should come this weekend.

John, for 13 of the 39 players, they will find out the biblical adage: MANY ARE CALLED, FEW ARE CHOSEN

tHIS REMINDS ME OF lAGARES - YOU CANNOT RISK INJURIES IN GAMES THAT DON'T COUNT - BIG BLOW TO wHITE sOX:

A week before opening day, the Chicago White Sox found out slugger Eloy Jiménez will be closed down for most of the season.

Jiménez is expected to be sidelined for five to six months after rupturing his left pectoral tendon trying to make a play in the outfield during an exhibition game.

The 24-year-old Jiménez needs surgery to repair the injury, putting his season in jeopardy. General manager Rick Hahn said the team will know more when he begins the rehab process.

Jiménez was hurt Wednesday when he tried to make a leaping grab at the wall on Sean Murphy’s solo homer for Oakland. Jiménez’s left arm barely moved as he walked off the field with a trainer.

1. Really like the new (old) look to the home page. Easier to see what’s available.
2. No way Syndergaard signs for only $17MM. I wrote a few weeks back that he lines up closely to Strasburg’s $35MM per year, although I can see about $7MM less.
3. I bet McNeil leads off by midseason and Nimmo is dropped to #3 where his power does more damage.
4. I don’t think Mets will re-sign Conforto. Bad agent match with Alderson and too many options on Mets already to play corner.
5. I wish Harvey, Giminez, Lagares, Flores and all the ex-Mets well, but there is no reason to chase our past.
6. Still think Lowrie was bullshitting the Mets for two years, for some reason that hasn’t come out yet and may not come out. Probably a Wilpon thing: Jeff told him to get on the field and Lowrie said “we’ll see”.

Gus - Are you saying you like the home page the way it is now or the way it used to be?

One of these days, we will do a suggestion box open thread to try to get everyone's feedback about some of the new things we have here.

Tom Brennan said...

Gus, see John's question.

Lowrie - really someone should look into that. He may have figured he got paid, was hurting, but since his pay was guaranteed, why not avoid further injury by playing. Two years of rest and he can play again where he really wanted to be?

Conforto - if he asks too much, there are other options, you are correct. Knowing Boras, he may ask too much, but Boras will want to be nice nice with Cohen, so we;ll see.

John From Albany said...

Has Boras been nice to anyone before? He is "nice" to the Nationals owner because he pays his clients more than anyone else.

Tom Brennan said...

Boras hated (probably not the right word) the Wilpons since they never wanted to dance with Scotty boy. Cohen is the new dance partner.
