No Mets game yesterday.  The Mets take on the Washington Nationals in West Palm Beach at 1:10 PM today. Jacob deGrom on the mound.

Newsday: Mets will showcase the "A" team in Sunday's spring game against Nats. Jacob deGrom will pitch — and hit, the first time a Mets pitcher will do so in a game in more than a year. And the lineup will feature most if not all of the regulars, including Dominic Smith in leftfield…. A sore right elbow has kept righthanded reliever Arodys Vizcaino out of recent games, Rojas said. The Mets expect he will pitch again in about a week… Rojas said Friday that Peterson was penciled into the Mets’ season-opening rotation. Peterson said that was news to him.

Noticed this on Mets.com yesterday: Piazza 31 Club Presented by True Premium Vodka (Formerly The Foxwoods Club)…Located behind home plate on the Excelsior Level, the Piazza 31 Club presented by True Premium Vodka features a full bar and multiple food offerings including gourmet hot dogs, pizza and other ballpark favorites. The Piazza 31 Club presented by True Premium Vodka does not provide a view of the field, but does feature over 20 high-definition televisions so that guests may see the game.

New York Mets traded Bill Almon to the Philadelphia Phillies for Shawn Barton and Vladimir Perez on March 21, 1988.

New York Mets released Oliver Perez on March 21, 2011.

National Pastime.com:

1965

In an exhibition game, Gary Kroll and Gordie Richardson combine to keep Pittsburgh hitless for nine innings in the Mets' 6-0 win in St. Petersburg. The first no-hitter thrown during the regular season in franchise history won't occur until 2012 when Johan Santana accomplishes the feat against St. Louis.

1973

In an exhibition game against the Mets, Fritz Peterson appears in his first game since going public about swapping families with Yankee teammate Mike Kekich. Many of the 4,320 fans at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg roundly boo the 31 year-old southpaw, but he goes the first five innings, picking up the win in the Bronx Bombers' 6-2 victory over their crosstown rivals.

2011

Citing a lack of velocity and command, Mets GM Sandy Alderson announces the release of 29 year-old southpaw Oliver Perez, who is still owed $12 million on his deal. The roster move marks the second time in four days that the team has cut a player having a considerable contract, with second baseman Luis Castillo being asked to leave despite his $6 million price tag.

1973

David Wright is named the captain of the Mets, joining John Franco, Keith Hernandez, and Gary Carter as the fourth player to be honored by the franchise. The 30 year-old third baseman, who signed an eight-year, $138 million contract in November, will be one of the current three major leaguers, along with Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter and White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, to have the title with their club.

No errors yesterday - having no game will do that.

I guess if the Mets had drafted Bo Bichette and not Alonso, he'd now be the Mets' SS.

It will be interesting today as deGrom takes on Max. Most likely an opening day preview.
