How can this guppy be smiling when my favorite guppy got demoted to AA?
After terrorizing AAA for 3 weeks, Wyatt Young gets WHAT?
Demoted to AA, of course - after all, it's Metsville.
He went 1 for 4 and a walk there last night. He has to get on base at least twice a game, you understand. It's what he does.
He is career .348/.430 OBP in 51 games now. That works for me. Funny that his previous picture on his AAA stats page had a beaming smile. It was replaced by a sad look on his AA stats page today.
I'm sad too, Wyatt. Keep your chin up.
He got replaced in AAA by two newly acquired mystery fellas - 2B Gosuke Katoh, Inspector Clouseau informed me, was one, and Tzu-Wei Lin played SS for Syracuse. Yeah, I never heard of them either. One hit between the two last night.
Naturally, with no Mighty Wyatt Young to spark 10-20 Syracuse's offense, they got shut out last night.
Tom Szapucki Alert:
The Szapper is starting to seem to be for real. He threw 4 shutout innings and fanned 9. He has now fanned an amazing 28 in just 16 innings.
The Mets' 3 highly ranked Syracuse prospects (Vientos, Lee, Cortes) combined for 0 for 9, and are all part of the sub-Mendoza Club. Bewildering.
Meanwhile, as Mighty Wyatt Young is demoted to Binghamton (9-18) in AA, AA's Francisco took another 0-fer and is down to .205. The latter has gone hitless in 7 of his last 9 games, no HRs in 16 games. Slump...or concern?
In the battle of "No, I'm better than you....no, I am better than YOU", Mauricio and Baty are both hitting .263. It's part of their equity agenda, perhaps.
One hurler who gets zero ink so far is Jose Chacin. So...here goes...
The 6'4" righty AA starter last night, Chacin hurled a "Szapucki" last night:
4.2 shutout innings and fanned 9.
He has a 1.53 ERA this year, with 6 walks vs. 34 Ks in 29 IP, after a 7-3, 3.26 season in 2021. Could he be this year's Adam Oller?
Meanwhile, hard throwing AA reliever Michel Otanez walked an insane 41 in 40 innings while fanning 58 in 2021. He called Mission Control and was told his mission WAS control.
This year, in 10.1 innings, 13 Ks and just 2 walks and 2 runs. Mission accomplished. Maybe a Citifield future is not so far off for the fireballer.
In warmer climes, 18-10 St Lucie's Alex Ramirez went just 1 for 5, slipping to .376, but his one hit? A 3 run Jack.
I have to ask: Why have an A Rod when you can have an A RAM?
Meanwhile, Jesus pitched great last night. Not kidding.
Brooklyn's Jesus Vargas threw 6 innings of one hit shutout ball and fanned 8. Nice.
Brooklyn led 5-1 after 7 - I know, you all shut the game off on TV and put the Mets game on. Whoops. That was a mistake.
Brooklyn lost 12-5. Mets' relievers gave up 12 runs on 7 hits and 7 walks over the final 3 innings.
Jaylen Palmer got a hit last night, but fanned 3 more times, bringing his total to 35 Ks in 64 at bats. That's a few too many, if you ask me, and probably is a contributing factor to his .141 average. In baseball, less Ks usually means a higher average, so maybe Jaylen can call Mission Control for instructions.

Wyatt Young needed to face some adversity to strengthen him, but he couldn't find it on the field as he was hitting everything the AAA pitchers threw at him. So the Mets provided him with something to frown about. That's OK - if he is mentally tough, he'll hit .440 in AA and create a path back up.
It seems that the Mets did not have infield diversification in Syracuse
Paul, you usually promote the successful, not demote them.
Tom you need to "retire" more often great stuff and I just wish more plyers would "slip" to .376 but seriously do we really have our Soto in Lucie? Fingers crossed.
Mack, the funny thing (if by diversification you are referring to nationality) is Wyatt Young is a Hawaiian of other native Hawaiian or Asian heritage, judging from his photo.
And his full name is Wyatt Hee-Wah Asami Young, so it does seem he is of Asian descent, too.
Seriously, though, he seems to be a Luis Guillorme threat in 2023 if Young's glove work is sharp - and it seems to be - the two are similar players, too early to say that Young's bat is long-term for real. But you want to save money on utility guys like Luis, even if you are Steve Cohen, and in 2023, Young will be a cheaper alternative, if he keeps it up.
Lin and Katoh were needed - the Mets upper minors has displayed horrific hitting, including (except for Young) its infielders. Only, off the top of my head, is Mauricio a AA/AAA infielder who is in fact hitting.
Gary, Ramirez is just HITTING so far, and I hope he will see AAA before the year is over. But that is 3 levels above where he is now. Only Wyatt Young can jump like that - remember, when he was torching AAA, that was 4 levels higher than he was at last year. Smartly, at age 19, the Mets left Ramirez at his same level in St Lucie. But soon, it will be time for Brooklyn.
Ramirez has hit so well, but is not deriving his .376 average from HRs - which I have little doubt will show up by next year. Just don't hit them into the air in the cyclonic winds of Brooklyn when promoted and he'll do fine.
Tylor Megill announced tonight that he is dropping out of the race for Cy Young.
