Cal Fisher, SS, Deerfield HS (Wisc.)
Current Draft Board Rank: 165
There’s always a handful of prep bats who rise up the draft board in the spring in a big way, and I’m comfortable betting on Fisher to be one of those in 2023. He’s one of the more consistent hit tool players in the Midwest and is coming off of a big fall, consistently finding authoritative barrel and using the whole field while also possessing that sort of grinder mentality/play style that scouts love.
He’s a solid defender who can profile at a number of spots, but the offensive game is the calling card here and I’m expecting to hear his name early and often once baseball starts being played in Wisconsin. -BS

Cal Fisher Deerfield
Fisher, a Notre Dame commit, has been one of the loudest performers on the showcase/tourney circuit for the better part of a year now. Fisher can really, really hit. He's uses the gaps and has tremendous extra-base power, with almost all of his over-the-fence power being to his pullside.
Fisher does a great job of getting extended and putting the barrel on the ball, sending his hands through the zone much like how Matt Holliday used to operate. Fisher is a below average runner with a fairly maxed out frame. He's likely to end up at second base where his lateral burst won't be tested quite as much.
He's got quick hands and is a good enough athlete to throw from multiple angles. There's a shot Fisher is a DJ LeMahieu type of production player, though admittedly much smaller in stature. You're buying the bat here and betting it's polished enough to result in a big league regular.

I currently have Cal as the 4th top second baseman in my board.
Power middle infielders like this don't last long draft day.
Fisher worth a 3rd round pick? Keep thinking we have tons of IFs, not enough pipeline pitching.
I would still go starter with my top 3 picks
