#55        Daniel Dickinson       2B, Louisiana State

21/years old        6' 0"        180

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 40 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

Dickinson didn't make the Kennewick (Wash.) HS varsity until his junior season and had no scholarship offers, leaving him to pursue a walk-on opportunity at Utah Valley. He earned all-Western Athletic Conference first-team accolades in each of his two years with the Wolverines, setting school records for homers (18) and steals (32) in 2024. The first Utah Valley player ever to make the U.S. collegiate national team, he transferred to Louisiana State for his junior season.

Dickinson excels at making contact with a simple right-handed swing and outstanding hand-eye coordination. He controls the strike zone well, uses the entire field and has no obvious weaknesses at the plate. There are questions about how much impact he'll make with wood bats, however, because he has average raw power at best (mostly to his pull side) and slashed .182/.311/.222 between Team USA and the Cape Cod League last summer.

An average runner, Dickinson steals bases more with savvy and aggressiveness than speed. He struggled at shortstop during fall practice at LSU, and his average range and arm strength are better suited for second base. That was his primary position at Utah Valley and on the Cape, where he also saw action at third base, short and left field.

2B    Daniel Dickinson

LSU baseball

) is another interesting college bat to keep an eye on. Burst onto the scene as a true Freshman and hit .372/.441/.592 with 19 2B, 9 HR, and 42 RBIs. Followed suit with an even more impressive Sophomore season to the tune of a .367/.469/.661 slash line with 14 2B, 18 HR, 53 RBIs, 32 SB and more BB (34) than Ks (28). Two-time first team All-WAC selection and earned a Team USA invite this past summer.

Strong, athletic build at 6' and 200-lbs with some length in his lower-half. Underratedly physical and has added strength since last year. Dickinson has a simple setup in the box with his knees slightly bent and a medium-high handset. Quiet operation: minimal load, slight leg lift leads into a small stride. Takes a direct path to contact, present quickness in his hands. Little bit of scissor action in his lower-1/2.

Dickinson's best trait offensively is his hit-ability. Bat-to-ball skills are comfortably plus -  last season he posted an 86% overall contact rate and an overall IZ contact rate of 92%. Present feel for the barrel, uses the entire field. Highest quality of contact comes from LCF gap over to the LF foul pole. Sound swing decisions, but a bit of FB miss in the top-1/2 of the zone and some secondary miss/chase down-and-away. Would give his hit tool a 55.

Impact, particularly with wood, is the main question mark for me. Posted a Max EV and 90th-percentile EV of 109.2 and 104.7, respectively, last spring and a Max EV of 101.2 this summer. Profiles as more XBH and gap-to-gap power than HR power long term.

Solid athlete on the dirt with good instincts and lateral range. Soft hands and makes the plays he should. Average arm. Got some run at SS this summer, but the entire package fits better at 2B - which is where he'll play professionally. Will get every opportunity to stick at 2B, and I think he will, but the mix of speed and athleticism could play in the OF if necessary.

Dickinson is an above-average runner, especially underway, and an effective base-stealer. 51-for-60 across '23 and '24, including this summer on the Cape. High-level baseball sense that translates to the bases. Executes various types of leads well, saw him swipe 3rd on a perfect shuffle lead. A nice cherry on top to Dickinson's profile is his makeup, which is outstanding. 2nd-4th round type this July.

30. Daniel Dickinson – 2B

HT/WT: 6’0/180 | Bat/Throw: R/R | School: Louisiana State | Age: 21.7

Hailing from Washington, Dickinson has quietly been one of the best hitters in college baseball the past two years. Dickinson has grown into his body more on campus and has elite contact skills from the right side of the plate.

There’s some twitch in his profile and very quick hands, staying direct to the baseball and lacing the ball to all fields. He likes to hammer the gaps and utilize his speed on the bases, though he’s tapped more into his power and projects as fringe-average to his pull side.

While he does chase a bit more than you’d like, Dickinson’s plate coverage is otherworldly and he handles everything well, including higher-end velocity when he comes across it.

As an infielder, Dickinson projects more as a second baseman. He has good range and footwork, though the arm strength isn’t the greatest and likely hampers his ability to stick at shortstop. Dickinson has taken his talents to Baton Rouge for the 2025 campaign and will be a fascinating prospect to watch handle SEC pitching.
