In Focus - Tidwell, Raimon, Alonso, Watson, Senga, Sproat, Kranick, Canning, Senger

Mack –

Been on TDY the past five days, so I wanted to catch up a little this morning with the past week’s pitcher graph stuff.

Hope you enjoy.

Thomas Nestico                 @TJStats

The Mets pitching pipeline is thriving and Raimon Gomez may have the best stuff in the system. He will likely end up in the bullpen where his elite fastball/slider combo should excel

Blade Tidwell (NYM) dominated in his AAA start today as he struck out 9 in 4.1 IP

His sweeper and fastball were extremely effective, returning a 72.7 and 66.7 Whiff% respectively

MLB WAR Leaders

Will Watson (NYM) is a prospect you should keep an eye on this season. He has excelled in the early going and wields one of the most deceptive fastballs in MiLB

Mack -
This kid sneaked up on me this season. Hell, he probably snuck up on everyone other than the dude that recruited him.
Real Helium stuff here.

Brandon Sproat

He leaned more on his sweeper and his velocity was up. Whiffs still seem to evade him, which has me questioning the use of his 4 Seam moving forward. I would like to see his effectiveness as a sinker guy

Mack -
It's getting clode to that time, isn't it?

Pitch Profiler                      @pitchprofiler

Clay Holmes went 6 strong vs the Cards: 1 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 2 BB, and no barrels.

The sinker was classic Holmes—30.8% usage with heavy arm-side run—but it was the changeup and sweeper that stood out, generating 55.6% and 50% whiff rates. Filthy depth.

THAT’S REED 0.00 ERA GARRETT TO YOU

Mack -
Is there anyone out there that diesn't appreciate this guy so far this season?

I’m going to be honest, how does anyone hit the ghost fork

Mack -
Okay... guess the ace has returned.

Brandon Sproat had a strong start today as he fired off 6.0 scoreless IP

Brandon Sproat was flawless this afternoon, blanking the Bisons over six strong innings of work.

He’s already got an MLB-ready arsenal—and it might get even better once Jeremy Hefner gets his hands on him.

        Mack –

Welcome back, Sproat-mon.

Brandon threw a 68.3% strike to ball ratio, which is going to win you some games.

Five pitch mix, including the return of his deadly sweeper (29x thrown, 84-mph average, 30%-Whiff%, 0.053-xwOBA contact).

This is the kind of results that scouts have been raving about when they discuss the potential of this guy becoming a star pitcher in the majors. Keep this up and you will be seeing him driving down Roosevelt Blvd. real soon.

MAX KRANICK'S SWEEPER IS BACK

Mack –

Classic Kranick shit here… 1.2-IP, 5-batters faced (minimum), zero hits, runs, walks… ya know, Kranick-shit.

The proof was in the pudding… 0.0% total barrel percentage on all pitches throw. Zero. Nada. None.

This is classic closer material, Mr. Hefner.

DAVID STEARNS KNOWS BALL

Mack – Canning used six pitches, but relied heavily (44.1%) on his 4-seam fastball (ave: 93.5mph).

Fastball, slider, and change resulted in 88%+ of his pitches and had results of 0% barrel%.

Add to that a 46.2% whiff% for his slider and this was quite the incredible outing.

Corne Hogeveen                   @CorneHogeveen

Boy Hayden Senger is off to a good start.

Look at that defense:

Mack –

Look… Senger has done a really nice job holding the fort down, but, come on… he does not have the hitting power and potential that Francisco Alvarez has.

Yes, he’s the best defensive catcher in the chain and he has a cannon for an arm, but that isn’t enough on a team that is still looking for a consistent bat lineup.

No, Alvy will return, and Senger will return to Syracuse.

Please note the following Syracuse Mets roster moves:

-RHP Grant Hartwig placed on Syracuse's Development List

-RHP Justin Hagenman optioned from New York and activated today

Tim Healey              @timbhealey

Francisco Alvarez and Jeff McNeil likely will continue their rehab assignment into this week, Carlos Mendoza said. So, the Mets probably won’t have them for the Phillies series.

Daniel Wexler                    @WexlerRules

4 members of Mets 2024 draft have yet to play in 2025. 6th round pick Corey Collins (rotator cuff), 14th round pick Tanner Witt (extended ST),

Owen Woodward (TJ rehab) and Jace Hampson (presumably on the FCL Mets, no insight there)

2023 Mets draft yet to play in 2024 Wyatt Hudepohl (TJ rehab), Brett Banks (extended ST), John Valle (I believe he's ready to rock in the FCL), Jake Zitella (FCL), Bryce Jenkins (TJ rehab

Wow. Cyclones activate RHP Brian Metoyer. Metoyer last appeared in a game in 2022 and due to injuries has only thrown 43 innings... since 2019! If he is indeed "back" Metoyer at one point had a FB up to 97 and a CB with elite-level spin rates

Mets selected Zack Thornton, Jack Wenninger and Noah Hall with back to back to back picks in 2023. At the time I was told they were extremely high on all 3. So far in 2025 the 3 of have combined to throw 45.2 innings 18 hits 15 walks 62 k's while allowing only 4 er. WOW

Michael Baron                    @michaelgbaron

Pete Alonso has multiple hits in four of his last six games, during which he has recorded three doubles, a triple, two home runs and five RBI. Over his last 18 games, Alonso is hitting .391/.487/.844 with nine doubles, a triple, six home runs, 23 RBI and 13 runs scored. His .356 batting average is the second-best in the National League, fifth-best in the majors. Alonso leads the majors in slugging percentage (.753), is second with a 1.220 OPS, second with 230 wRC+, and fourth with 23 RBI

Mets pitching, MLB ranks:

Overall: 2.27 ERA (1st)  Starters: 2.47 ERA (1st)  Relievers: 2.02 ERA (3rd)

The Mets have scored 84 runs in 21 games in 2025 (avg 4 runs per game). Juan Soto (15), Pete Alonso (13), and Francisco Lindor (11) have accounted for 46 percent of those runs scored.

Should not forget Tyrone Taylor in this game. He scored an early run on a hustle play on a shallow sac fly. He also doubled in a run in the 8th inning. Big day for him today.

Patrick                      @patrickrglynn

Kodai Senga allowed two runs in the first inning of the year and hasn’t allowed another in the 19 innings since.

How much pitching talent can one possibly take. Remember, no Manaeaand Montas. Both looking more and more like expensive surplus.

Raimon Gomez? If you throw 100, you could be in theMets pen later this year with control.

Mack said...

Pause drafting large list of starters this year

Replenish bats over 4 feet tall

Mack said...

And that was AVERAGE 100

Paul Articulates said...

You can never have enough pitching. People get hurt, arms get tired, and sometimes guys in the pen just lose their magic. Just keep them progressing.
