Clay Holmes: a career-high 10 strikeouts and not a single barrel allowed!
The
changeup and sweeper each graded 110+ proStuff+, while the slider racked up a
43% whiff rate and kept trending in the right direction on the movement chart.
Nasty stuff—even with the 4 ER.

Clay Holmes stuck out a career high 10 batter today!
He got
off to a shaky start before locking in to tear through Marlins batters with his
deep arsenal. His final line was tarnished by a 3-run homer allowed by Huascar
Brazobán
A lot
more changeups is very encouraging!
Mack –
As you see, they are raving about this outing.
Ten strikeouts n 5.1-IP... no barrels (see, I got that barrel thingy down).
Did I tell you the temperature was from hunger?
Frankly, the final stat line was tarnished by
the two runs Holmes was charged with when Huascar Brazobán gave up a 3-run
homer. Two of those runs were charged against Clay. You take them away and this
was a great outing with a great stat line.
Instead, it was only a great outing.
My only bone of contention... eliminate the
three walks over 5.1 and many you wouldn't have to be pulled for the homer
slinging Brazobán.
YESTERDAY -
Michael Tricarico
Syracuse,
NY – In what was largely an unplanned bullpen day for the Syracuse Mets
pitching staff, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs pulled away late and handed the Mets
a 7-2 loss on a chilly Tuesday night at Coca Cola Park.
The Mets got the scoring started in the top of the third inning when Jose Azocar doubled and then scored on a Billy McKinney RBI single to take a 1-0 lead over Lehigh Valley (8-2).

Mets
comeback bid falls short, Flying Tigers take opener 6-4
Watson
tosses 4.1 hitless innings in season debut
LAKELAND,
Fla. (April 8, 2025) – The Lakeland Flying Tigers held off the St. Lucie Mets
6-4 in the series opener between the teams at Joker Marchant Stadium on Tuesday
night.
Mets
starter Will Watson was excellent in his first
game of the season. He pitched 4.1 hitless innings with no walks and seven
strikeouts. The only run against him was unearned after the Mets made two
errors in the first inning.
Anthony DiComo @AnthonyDiComo
The Mets
held a moment of silence today to honor Octavio Dotel and
the victims of the Dominican Republic roof collapse tragedy. Carlos Mendoza
also offered some words of condolence during his pregame press conference.
Francisco Alvarez will start a rehab assignment
tomorrow, per Carlos Mendoza. McNeil will do so
later this week
Jeff McNeil (oblique) is traveling to Florida today (on his
birthday!) to ramp up his rehab -- something he couldn't do in New York due to
the poor weather. The goal is still very much for him to return before the end
of April, if not sooner.
Russ O’Brien @RussellTOB
Happy Birthday Jeff McNeil! I’m looking forward to your return to the lineup. Your .289 lifetime batting average is the highest among any active Mets player. I hope you remain a Met beyond the duration of your current contract. Flying squirrel

Pete Alonso now has 15 RBi on the year in 11 games. The Juan
Soto effect.
Pete Alonso is hitting .364/.467/.846 with three doubles, three
home runs and 11 RBI over his last seven games.
The Juan Soto Sandwich:
Francisco Lindor has hit in 6 straight games & is
hitting .364/.423/.455 during that span
Juan Soto has reached base in all 10 games to open the season
Pete Alonso is hitting .364/.467/.846 with three doubles, three HR & 11 RBI over
his last 7 games
Daniel Wexler @WexlerRules
Dom Hamel apparently had some arm soreness in ST. Velocity was down his first
start. Hopefully, nothing major.
It would appear R.J. Gordon picked
up the hot new pitch... the kick change, this off-season.
Gordon said one of his personal goals was to one day hit 100
MPH (his career best as of 2024 was 97).
Don't know that it will be today but it's expected that Dylan Tebrake will make his first appearance since
7/29/2023 this week (rehab-hip surgery) with St. Lucie
Ernest Dove @ernestdove
Juan Soto now currently hitting .308. Watching people on my timeline pretend he
wasn't doing well has been quietly hilarious to me to begin this season,
especially from the non Mets fans who were acting like he would stop being a
generational hitter here
Down in
Low A St. Lucie Mets SP Will Watson so far has 3
hitless innings 4 Ks. He's topping 97 and throwing multiple different pitches
as well all mostly for strikes. I've talked about him all minor league camp.
Thank you
again Tommy Pham alert. Mets IF prospect Jeremy Rodriguez drives in 2 with a single
for low A St. Lucie Mets.
Two more
hits tonight for Mets OF prospect AJ Ewing for
Low A St. Lucie Mets. The 20 year old is
quickly getting interesting for me.
Nick Roselli joining the party. He's also a fun power bat to keep an eye on this
season in Brooklyn.

Holmes was nasty.
Brazoban has only allowed 11 HRs in 151 MLB innings in his career. My guess is he was affected by pitching inside a Frigidaire.
Will Watson? Thrusting himself into the elite Mets pitching prospects? Always room for one more.
It was 19 degrees this morning in Binghamton, but is expected to reach the low to mid 40s for their doubleheader home opener this afternoon.
Amazing that Senger and Torrens are 10 for 35 at the plate (.286). Alvarez should not try to force-accelerate his return. Come back healthy. McNeil is desperately needed back. Happy birthday, and get well soon.
Going deep on Watson at 10am
McNeil was scheduled to travel to Florida to get closer to rehab assignment
Where there's a Will theres a way but he will probably be sent to Brooklyn before they come to Bradenton this summer so I can see him... dam. Will CM automatically put Alvy in the #1 catcher spot on his return? I say make him earn it.
I can't believe they played last night in Syracuse. It snowed all day and when I left work (I live 40 miles from the Cuse) it was 26 degrees
You might be right if he can improve greatly on his BB/9 numbers
Age a factor too
Tough love but all these teams have facilities in Florida where they could play April
I would think the organization would be super concerned with the risk of injury playing in such cold weather. And it's not like a lot of people go to the games in such cold weather
Hamel already down with tightness
Holmes has indeed started well, but he is still struggling from his walk rate - needs to get that down. It not only leaves runners on base that will cost him, but also cuts down on how deep he can go into games. We don't want to burn out this very successful bullpen.
this is true
walks eat up pitch counts
