TOM'S TIDBITS - AA DOOZIES AND SNOOZIES

TOM'S TIDBITS - AA DOOZIES AND SNOOZIES:

(Filling In For Mack Today:)

NICK MORABITO:

His transition to AA started very awfully, thanks for asking.

First 3 games, 0-10 with 8 Ks.  See ball, hit ball?

I discard that - some guys can’t hit well when they are suffering frostbite.

Since then, through Wednesday, he was 10 for 47 with 5 walks and 14 Ks. And 5 steals and 6 XBHs.  No, not great.  But BETTER, in mostly still-frigid weather.

My guess was he is now fully thawed, and as such fully unflawed,  and ready to return to his .300+ pre-2025 career average.

Sure enough, on a beautiful warm Thursday DAY game, he went 3 for 3, including his 2nd HR of the season.  Batting average soars to the mid .230s.

It’s all a matter of degrees. The more degrees, the merrier.

Ryan Clifford had accelerated, too.

The Binghamton weather for Friday thru Sunday looks fine, so let’s see some Bingo hitting surge. In fact, the warm Thursday weather led to a double header sweep.

The entire frozen Eastern League is hitting .225, while Bingo was hitting .232 through Thursday, scoring 4 runs per game.

Don’t tell me that idiotic early season night games well north of the Arctic Circle don’t adversely impact hitters.  But...

If Binghamton is hitting as modestly as they are, how are they 11-6?

Like the NY Mets, PITCHING PITCHING PITCHING AND MORE PITCHING.

A 3.07 team ERA and an insane 191 Ks in 138 innings (12.5 Ks per 9 IP).

That's how.

JT SCHWARTZ:

The anti-Alonso. Pete is “I’m playing every day, even if my leg is falling off.”

I do not know what JT’s maladies are this year, but he is back on the IL and missing even more time. He is up just 18 official ABs this year, and just 1,136 ABs since being drafted in 2021. Just 325 games in that span.

I wonder if, when he was asked if he was happy the Mets drafted him, he replied, “Yes, I enjoy a flexible, part time work schedule”?

Kidding aside, get better and return and play every day. So we can all say:

MAY THE SCHWARTZ BE WITH YOU

JOANDER SUAREZ:

He is off to a SERIOUS AA start: 14 IP, just 6 base runners, 14 K, 0.00.

FELIPE DE LA CRUZ:

1.93 ERA, 20 Ks in 13.2 IP. Cruzing.

Binghamton is 11-6, and its staff has a 3.07 ERA and 191 incredible Ks in 138 IP.  Go figure.

Sproat got his derriere kicked last night. Ouch. Jack Wenninger, a name known to relatively few, may be better than Sproat right now.

Matt Allan just 2 innings, one hit (a HR). They are really easing him back.

Baty needs to RAKE in Syracuse to force the Mets to bring him back up or trade him. The ball's in his court (or infield?)

Some guys struggle in NY. I think Baty is Exhibit A.

Tom, I was told the exact same thing about Baty by some "beat" people. Hopefully, he can beat that tag.

John, it may be a while now for Brett, with the return of McNeil. McNeil will play a lot. If Baty whales on the ball in AAA, he could push Azocar out. I tried repeatedly to urge Baty to be aggressive like Brent Rooker at the plate. He, however, blew the first 2+ weeks not doing that. Had he done it, he'd still have been here. His hitting was showing signs of life, but too little, too late. Hopefully, he embraces that titanic blast off Zack Wheeler and builds on it.

I'm rooting for the kid. Hope he finally puts it together, even if not with the Mets organization

Some serious cheddar coming from AA.

The only space available to Baty is if Winkler gets hurt. He can DH and spell Vientos.

Winker last 3 games 3 for 6 and a walk. Jesse, who has had a pretty slow season's start, but is 7 for his last 28, has very positive team intangibles which I think support 18-7. I really want him here, and healthy. Let's hope the two Nationals alums, Winker and Soto, go wild in this 4 game weekend series v. Nats.

Nats have an inviting 4.69 team ERA, as compared to the Mets' 2.34 ERA, which is exactly half the Nats' ERA. Let's score 30 runs in this series..
