CUTNPASTE: - Roberto Alomar, Minors W-L, Trading Reyes, Halladay Deal To Mets... and Logan White

Roberto Alomar:

caribbeanbusiness  - The bitter breakup between TV personality MarĂa “Maripily” del Pilar Rivera and baseball great Roberto Alomar took a nasty turn with allegations that he is infected with HIV and hid his diagnosis from his estranged wife. Maripily claims in divorce papers filed in Florida that Alomar intentionally hid his alleged condition from her and that the couple had unprotected sexual relations. She said she has not tested positive. The couple began dating and quickly married after a former girlfriend of Alomar sued him for $15 million for allegedly exposing her to HIV. That case was settled out of court

 Trading Reyes:

metsmorized  - Whomever the Mets hire as general manager I will be curious to see his take on Jose Reyes. Will he believe the team should be built around Reyes, or would the Mets be better served to deal him as an attempt to plug several holes, notably in the rotation and bullpen? The path of least resistance would be to pick up Reyes’ $11 million option for 2011, then use that season as the basis to negotiate a long-term extension. The gamble would be to pull the trigger now, thinking his value has peaked. At 27, Reyes is entering the prime of his career and should command a lot in return

Halladay Deal To Mets:

http://rhmic.th8.us/  - Across town it’s unclear how serious the Mets ever were in acquiring Halladay. Jon Heyman of SI claimed Toronto was willing to deal Doc to Queens for Jonathon Niese, Ruben Tejada, Fernando Martinez, and Bobby Parnell. Certainly a package that would rob the Mets roster of depth, but not of star quality. Niese would be the only painful part of that deal, but Halladay at the forefront of a pennant winning Mets team might ease that, at least in the short term. The big question is whether Halladay would ever sign with anyone other than the Phillies. It sounds as if he would have stayed in Toronto and tested free agency for most teams other than Philadelphia. Even if he was traded to New York there were doubts he would have signed an extension. We just don’t know how things would have turned out.

Logan White:

NYBD  - As I said during the Mets recap podcast earlier this week, it’s difficult to evaluate executives because, unlike players and managers, there isn’t a won/loss record or stat line to evaluate. However, what you do find on White is rather impressive. White’s scouting background would do wonders for the Mets. From 2002-2004 the Dodgers were the only team in the league that had their draft ranked in the top five in baseball. Seven pitchers were taken in the eight drafts run by White since 2002. The strategy has yielded names such as Kershaw, Broxton, and Billingsley. White was responsible for drafting both Russell Martin and Matt Kemp in the later rounds as well. He also signed both Takashi Saito and Hiroki Kuroda from Japan, as both were instrumental in helping the Dodgers reach the postseason. According to MLB.com 23 of the 40 members of the Dodgers roster were drafted or signed by the teams scouting department. For a team like the Mets, who have seen their farm system criticized, that would be a welcome change.
