The Matt den Dekker wrist
injury may have cost him dearly as a future Met. Obviously, he will go on the
DL and the Mets are going to have to put together a future pla without him in
centerfield. Off the top, Kirk Nieuwenhuis gets
a do-over and, if he turns a bad spring around, he could make den Dekker look
like the guy that sat down to let Lou Gehrig play one day.
Folks, Marlon Byrd had
a nice spring, Collin Cowgill has made it
interesting, and Lucas Duda is waking up, but,
at best, this is a bad outfield and needs at least two more working parts if
they want to compete someday in the playoffs.
We all love what den Dekker does in the
outfield, but you simply can’t .210 in the majors. In retrospect, I wish they
left him on the minors section of the camp. He needed another year in the
hitting-friendly Vegas air to get his hitting confidence back. Oh well.
With the den Dekker injury, the Las Vegas
outfield looks to open with Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Juan
Lagares, Andrew Brown, Jamie Hoffman, and one from a group including Carlos Torres, Corey Paterson, and Mike Wilson.
The B-Met outfield (on paper) looks to be Corey Vaughn, Cesar Puello,
Alonzo Harris, and Pedro Zapata.
St. Lucie looks to be Darrell
Cecilliani, Gilbert Gomez, Travis Taijerson, and Charlie Thurber.
Savannah could be any combination of Jeff Glenn, Stefan Sabol, Greg Pron, Brandon Nimmo, Eudy
Pena, and Dustin Lawley.

Is Charlie Thurber related to James Thurber? :D
Here's my short list:
Brown or Lagares, Byrd, Cowgill, Duda, Valdespin and either Kirk or Baxter
Brown looked terrible yesterday, but I believe with enough reps his bat will heat up. Defensively, he's very sound.
We all like Kirk, but like MDD, he's gotta hit. Baxter has adapted well to utility OF role, so he deserves maximum consideration for that role.
Guys like 'Spin & Lutz are hybrid players: 'Spin mid-IF & all OF; Lutz corner-IF & OF. We should see how that plays out.
Question: Should Mets re-visit Murphy for Gregerson talks? Just asking...
the Mets should always revisit anything that can improve either their second base or outfield situation
