I love taking starting pitchers. I think any franchise looking to rebuild needs to stock pile them. They are mlb's most valuable currency.
One James Shields gets you the minors best power bat plus other prospects.
One RA gets you the top catching prospect in the minors plus another future SP 1 and a possible everyday future outfielder.
This only happens when you have depth in the minors in terms of pitching talent. You can't go wrong picking the best pitcher available. Unless there's at least two or three great bats that are widely considered better picks at the moment of your pick. Then you can't be faulted for picking one of them.
If I'm the Mets, I look for a legit pitching prospect first. If you have to reach for him, the. I go with the best bat available. The only reason I'd deviate from that strategy, is if the bat is a SS. Sorry, with Tejada and then multiple other SS already in the system, I just could pick another one.
I like the idea of Reese McGuire as well.
I've seen some mocks having Ryne Stanek & Sean Manea possibly falling to us at #11, but after Stanek's outing the other day, I don't see that happening. Manea was being considered for the top pick, so assuming he doesn't fall off down the stretch, a power lefty like him will def be gone.
As of now, I would say to take either any one of those guys that may fall to #11 besides J.P Crawford, or Dominic Smith if we think he can play RF, Austin Wilson or Kohl Stewart (least likely pick for Mets due to $$$).
I would pick Boldt or Kaminsky
Boldt because he is great behind the plate and on the field. I think Brandon Nimmo will end as corner outfielder so Boldt would be the only true CF. His scouting reports reminds me on Jacoby Ellsburry!
Kaminsky because you cant have enough pitching...especially LHP. I think he has at very least the chance to become a mid rotation arm. His scouting reports rave about his CUrve.
Austin Wilson....then we can stop debating whether the Mets can or should trade for Stanton. After this pick, nothing but pitching or SS the rest of the way.
I don't know much about Wilson. Is he a college outfielder?
I also would take Wilson.
He's a 5-tool college junior out of UCLA. Has it all, but has had a tough past 12 months (slump, injury). Nothing career threatening. Easily the third most talented outfielder in the draft behind Frazier and Meadows
I think he goes to Stanford. Regardless, big kid, big arm, plays the OF well and has big power potential. Even if he doesn't make it, he won't need 4-5 years like Nimmo or Cecchini and might make interesting trade bait at some point.

Wonder what you guys in the know think of Hunter Harvey. The high schooler has hit 97 on the gun and has over 18K/9IP and under 2BB/9IP.
Harvey has just started to get late 1st/sup 1/2nd round recognition... I'm sure he's having great HS stats but he could be pitching against much inferior competition. We like to judge high schoolers on their "showcase" and "travel team" results when they are pitching against regional all-stars.
Still, that being said, his velo is way up this year and that's why his name is now coming up.
