Morning.
The scratching of David Wright from the WBC DR game brings up a whole
new wrinkle for the Mets. Do you call up Captain America and tell him to pack
his bags and come home? Hell, I would. I can’t see the Mets having any chance
to compete for a playoff spot this season without Wright, not only on third,
but having a productive year.
He told Kevin Kernan last night that it hurts while he sleeps which is a sign of an oblique problem.
He told Kevin Kernan last night that it hurts while he sleeps which is a sign of an oblique problem.
This is what I guess
will be a developing story today.
I spent an hour on the
phone late yesterday with ‘someone’ that I asked to clear up the rotations in
the minors.
He warned up front that
this changes every day so nothing is etched in stone.
So, right now, according
to ‘him’:
AAA – Impossible to
determine until the parent club is decided upon. The guess is Jeremy Heffner is
safe in Queens. Locks look to be Zack Wheeler and
Jenrry Mejia. Past that, four more must be
picked from Chris Schwinden, Collin McHugh, Darin
Gorski, Mark Cohoon, and Dylan Owen.
AA – Cory Mazzoni is
back to being projected here, along with Rafael
Montero, Erik Goeddel, Tyler Pill, Greg Peavey, and Chase Huchington. What still has to be determined is
if Angel Cuan and Gonzalez
Germen either start or go to the pen.
A+ - Michael Fulmer’s
injury created an opening and Noah Syndegaard is back to being projected for
St. Lucie. The other five starters, for now are Jake
deGrom, Domingo Tapia, Luis Mateo, Hansel Robles, and Logan Verrett.
A – They still can’t
figure this one out. The eight top candidates are Gabriel Ynoa, Steven Matz,
Rainy Lara, Luis Cessa, Julian Hilario, Miller Diaz, Jon Gant, and Alex Panteliodes.

I did speak to P Steve Matz… he said that he hasn’t been told whether
he is being assigned to a full season team yet. I also checked with him on the
status of once prospect pitcher Zach Dotson, and
he’s still with the team but will remain back in extended camp this year.
Top 50 Mets of All
Time: #36 Bernard Gilkey
A nice article about
first baseman on SB Nation http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2013/3/14/4104150/joey-votto-albert-pujols-prince-fielder-first-base-shortage
In the shorter term, this should mean that a non-competitive
team that has a decently productive veteran first base type like Garret Jones
might receive more in trade than in a typical year, and a club with a top
prospect who is blocked, such as the Cardinals' Matt Adams (by Allen Craig)
will be able to ask and get the moon should they need help at the deadline.
Hart and Teixeira will eventually be back, spelling an end to the reign of
subpar subs their teams will be employing, but the overall depth at the position
could still be thin. Not only will players like Votto need to have full,
healthy years for the position's depth to recover, but younger first basemen
like Freddie Freeman and Ike Davis will have to
show more consistency than they did in 2012.

Martino - @MartinoNYDN - Scouts have been a little mixed on Travis d'Arnaud this spring, but Mets people
absolutely loving his work with pitchers. So that's good.
This are the same scouts that either told the Mets to go
after him, or work for other teams and wish their team had him in their system.
Let’s remember he’s just a kid and it’s obvious that John Buck has helped him
tremendously on working with the pitchers. Don’t worry about his bat. It’s
there.
Thursday Game
Recap
SP Dillon Gee had a
horrible first inning… three walks and two HBP created two runs without giving
up a hit. And then it got bad for him. Just
a shitty ST outing: 2.0-IP, 6-ER, 4-BB, 2-HP, WP, HR, 7.00. Better now than Aprii.
All the wrong Mets (Recker, Lutz) continue to hit… while
guys like Baxter and den Dekker don’t (look for dD, d’Arnaud, and Flores to be
sent back to the minors camp by the end of this week).
RP LaTroy Hawkins sure
looks for real.
RP Josh Edgin continues to
be shaky. Look, I love the kid, but did anyone notice his ERA at the end of
last year? I’m just saying, this may not
be a finished product yet.
(Just an interesting note here… the Mets are playing
against Detroit today and it is well known that they are looking for relief
help and a right hand hitting outfielder. They have starters to offer back)
Summary: Nothing stood out here today.
