Mack Ade – Morning Report – 3-28-13
Forbes values the Mets sixth in MLB at $811
million - 6 teams lost money including the Mets at (-$2.4mil).
Today's starter - Domingo Tapia (96-98, 100... 97-slider)
Pedro Feliciano will start the season with St. Lucie.
Elvin Ramirez was sold to LAA for cash. This is one of the only businesses where it is an insult to be sold for cash. Ramirez had a couple of times to make his mark, and didn't. It's more times than most get. We at Mack's Mets wish him well.

I know it always seems that the Mets are
operating under an unfair system of injuries but, frankly, all it has done over
the years is expose the team to their lack of ‘depth of talent’ rather than the
‘surface talent’ in the starting lineup. I can’t remember the last time I heard
someone say or write that super-prospect ‘so and so’ is blocked and can’t find
a way out of AAA and on to the major league squad. The closest we have got to
this point is right now with Zack Wheeler and Travis d’Arnaud.
Last day cuts are sometimes interesting,
especially for teams that do have too much depth. Imagine you have three great
outfielders under contract and a top prospect ready to play at the MLB level.
Does having options left solve your problems? Look at the Dodgers. Hey have Carl Crawford signd through 2017, Matt Kemp through 2019, and Andre
Ethier through 2017. What happens when super-prospect Yasiel Puig is ready to play big ball?
We know that the Mets are far from this point,
but what happens some day if the rotation is Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Montana
and Gee… everything is clicking… and along comes Syndergaard, Mazzoni, Pill,
and deGrom?
See?
Sandy Alderson:
“Ultimately,
we’re judged on whether we win or lose. … My goal ultimately is for a lot of
Mets fans to be happy with where we are – not where we’re going, but where we
are. … Many fans are not conditioned to think long-term, and you would expect
that to be especially true in New York. I don’t know if this is a majority or a
minority, but I’ve actually found from day to day that a lot of people have
bought into what we’re doing. That does not mean that the average Mets fan has
unlimited patience. But my sense is that they have some understanding at least
of what we’re trying to do. … I want people to be happy. And people in baseball
are only happy if they’re winning.”
Is it just
me or are you getting sick of all this rhetorical bullshit too? How long do we
have to here “wait until next year” until we begin to start realizing that this
guy just might not know how to pull the trigger consistently?
Let’s not target
on TC’s lack of contract. Sandy’s runs out in 2014.

- While Noah Syndergaard gets a lot of love for
his fastball, it’s the changeup that I’m most excited about. It’s rare at
Syndergaard’s age to see such a potentially good looking changeup from a power
pitcher. Is it a bit behind his fastball as Michael suggests? Yes, but it’s got
tremendous potential to become his out pitch. While showcasing solid arm
action, good speed differential, and decent downward movement with the pitch,
the key for his changeup to take the next step in it’s development is consistency.
The potential is there for this pitch to end up a shade below plus by the time
he’s finished developing. As for the fastball, Evan is spot on with his
comments. One thing I like to remind readers when writing about a good fastball
that is getting hit too much is the difference between command and control.
Right now, Syndergaard can throw plenty of strikes with his fastball, but his
command isn’t on par with the quality of fastball he possesses. When he starts
hitting his location with the pitch, lookout! He could leapfrog into our top 25
by this time next year.

I find it curious that Flores is going to repeat AA. Is that so the illustrious Brian Bixler or the guy with the great name (Havens) get necessary ABs at 2B? With Wright locked up for eternity I would think Flores would be asked to learn 2B where his good but not great power would make him an even more valuable player (or trade chip).
What happens when puig is ready? The Mets take Ethier off their hands for a song as a salary dump.
The assignment of Flores to AA could just be a paper move until they figure out the Wright/Lutz situation.
I'm being told that Lutz is in play.
A lot of teams will watch what Puig does this year in AA.
He hit like .600 this spring.
LA would be the perfect team to channel some of the young Mets pitching
Forgive my ignorance - how is Lutz 'in play'?
There is some interest from an American league team to trade for him
