LAST GAME: The B-Mets racked up 11 hits, including five for extra-bases, in a 6-3 win over New Britain. They wasted little time jumping on New Britain starter Pat Dean. After Josh Rodriguez singled, Cesar Puello doubled in the first run of the game. Allan Dykstra followed by blasting a two-run home run to put the B-Mets up 3-0 in the first inning. They tacked on another run in the second inning, when Danny Muno scored on a Rodriguez double. The Rock Cats scored against Logan Verrett in the fourth.Deibinson Romero hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 4-1. The offense responded with two runs on a pair of RBI doubles by Puello and Dykstra. New Britain scored the final two runs of the game in the sixth. They got four hits against Verrett in the inning, who scattered nine hits over six innings. He struck out a season-high 10 batters and earned his league-leading sixth win on the mound. Adam Kolarek pitched two scoreless innings of relief, and Jeff Walters slammed the door in the ninth to log his 12th save of the year.
BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Jacob deGrom makes his seventh start of the season for the B-Mets. He earned his first Double-A win in his last start, 5/15 v AKR. The Florida native threw 7.0 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. deGrom was called up to Binghamton on 4/16 after six starts with the St. Lucie Mets. He was 1-0 in those starts. He has gone at least 5.0 innings in each of his six starts with the B-Mets, and opponents are batting .288 against him.
NEW BRITAIN STARTING PITCHER: RHP Trevor May makes his ninth start of the season for the Rock Cats. He matched his shortest outing of the season in his last start, throwing only 4.0 innings 5/16 @ BOW. He allowed five runs on nine hits in his second loss of the season. This is May’s first season in the Twin’s organization. In 2012, he went 10-13 in 28 starts with the Reading Phillies. Over this past offseason, he was traded from Philadelphia along with P Vance Worthy to the Twins for OF Ben Revere.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Cory Vaughn was named Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of May 13-19. During that stretch, Vaughn hit .400 (10-25) with nine RBI. His week was highlighted when he launched the first B-Met grand slam of the season against the Akron Aeros on 5/15. Vaughn currently leads the team with 27 RBI, and is second on the team with a .305 batting average.
DYKSTRA DIALED IN: In Monday’s 6-3 win, Allan Dykstra led the offense going 2-for-4 with four RBI. This was the third game this season where a B-Met has knocked in four runs. Cory Vaughn has done it twice this season. Dykstra is hitting .276 with 21 RBI, and has hit in the cleanup spot in 28 of the last 30 games.
SIX OVER .500: The B-Mets have a 25-19 record, and are currently tied with Portland for the Eastern Division lead. This is the first time the B-Mets have been six games over .500 since 7/17/10, when they’re record was 50-44. 44 games is the fastest Binghamton has reached 25 wins since 2004, where it took 41 games.
EARLY OFFENSE: The B-Mets scored three runs in the top of the first inning in Monday’s 6-3 win. That was the fourth straight game Binghamton has scored in the first inning. They have scored in the first inning 16 times this season.
HOT BATS: The B-Mets have collected at least 10 base hits in six of their last eight games. They are 7-1 during that stretch and are 8-2 in their last 10 games.
WINNING ROADTRIP: A win on Tuesday would clinch a winning roadtrip. They are 3-1 through the first four games, and are 14-9 on the road in 2013.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets face off against the New Britain Rock Cats in the third game of a four-game series Wednesday night. RHP Erik Goeddel starts for Binghamton against RHP Alex Meyer. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
