LAST GAME: The B-Mets scored four runs in the first inning, but watched as the Curve scored the final six runs of the game as they topped Binghamton 8-4 Wednesday night. The four-run inning was highlighted by an Allan Dykstra three-run home run againstJameson Taillon. After that inning however, the B-Met offense was shut down. They did not score over the final eight frames of the game, and they tallied just two more base hits throughout the contest. Altoona battled back to tie the game, and took the lead in the seventh on a throwing error by Richard LucasChase Huchinson allowed the unearned run, and was tagged for his first loss of the season. The win snapped Binghamton’s four-game winning streak.

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Cory Mazzoni makes his sixth start of the season for the B-Mets. In each of his last two starts, Mazzoni has given up five earned runs. He got a no-decision 5/24 v POR, when he scattered six hits over five innings on the mound. He walked a season-high four batters in a game Binghamton would eventually drop, 10-9. This season opponents are batting .313 against the righty. At home, Mazzoni is 1-0 in two starts, and has allowed six earned runs in 10.2 innings. In his last start against a National League affiliate, he went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.

ALTOONA STARTING PITCHER: RHP Stolmy Pimentel makes his eleventh start of the season for the Altoona Curve. Pimentel has lost each of his last three starts, and has allowed at least five runs in each of his last four starts. Prior to those starts, he only gave up three earned runs through his first 36.1 innings this season. Opponents are hitting .246 against Pimentel, and he has thrown five quality starts in 2013. On the road, he is 1-1 with a 2.40 ERA in five starts. After posting a 0.30 ERA in April, he now has a 7.39 ERA in the month of May. At the plate, he is 1-for-11 this season with one RBI and five strikeouts.

WAKEY WAKEY: Thursday will be the second 10:35 AM start time for the B-Mets in 2013. Last Thursday against New Britain, Binghamton lost 1-0 on the road. Their final morning game of the season will be a week from Thursday against the Trenton Thunder. In day games in 2013, the B-Mets are 8-6.

DYKSTRA DELIVERS: During this seven-game homestand, Allan Dykstra has gone 9-for-21 with four doubles, three home runs, nine RBI, and six runs scored. He has hit three home runs in the last four games, and is now has the ninth highest batting average in the Eastern League (.307). Dykstra is also ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.547), third in the league in on-base percentage (.449), and fourth in doubles (15).


FALLING BEHIND EARLY: In each of the last three games, Binghamton has allowed their opponents to score in the top of the first inning. This season, the B-Mets are 14-14 when the opposition scores first.

NO PRODUCTION AT THE BOTTOM: In Wednesday’s loss, the bottom four slots in the batting order went a combined 0-for-16 at the plate. The top five hitters in the order went 6-for-17 with four RBI and four runs. The first five batters of the first inning all reached base.

RODRIGUEZ’S STREAK: Josh Rodriguez hit a one-out double in the seventh inningon Wednesday, extending his season-long hitting streak to 15 games. During the streak, he is hitting .444 (24-for-54). Six of those games have been multiple-hit games, and Rodriguez has knocked in 14 runs during that stretch. The streak matches Cesar Puello’smark for the longest B-Met hitting streak this season.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets hit the road for a quick three-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The first game is Friday night at 7:05 PM at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Logan Verrett will throw for the B-Mets against RHP Deck McGuire for New Hampshire.
