LAST GAME: The B-Mets pounded out 13 hits and walked eight times, but mustered just three runs in a 9-3 loss to New Britain Tuesday night. The first inning was their lone highlight offensively; Cesar Puello blasted his sixth home run of the season to give the B-Mets a 2-0 lead. The offense continued to threaten Trevor May, but they could not deliver the knock-out blow. He allowed six more hits and walked five after Puello’s home run but kept the B-Mets off the board. He stranded eight runners during his five frames. The Rock Cats grabbed the lead for good in the third inning against Jacob deGrom. They scored three runs on five hits, and then stretched that lead with four more runs in the fifth. Deibinson Romero busted the game open busted the game open in the sixth inning with his second home run of the series, making the score 9-2.Josh Rodriguez knocked in one run in the eighth against the New Britain bullpen, but that was not near enough to mount a comeback.  

BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his ninth start of the season with the B-Mets. He has won each of his last two decisions, and Binghamton has won each of Goeddel’s last five starts. In his last start, he received a no-decision on 5/17 @ POR. The righty threw 6.0 innings, and allowed three runs on six hits. He also struck out six in the game. Opponents are hitting .291 against Goeddel, and he is pitching in his first season at the Double-A level. He was selected by the Mets in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of UCLA.


NEW BRITAIN STARTING PITCHER: RHP Alex Meyer makes his ninth start of the season for New Britain. The 6’9” righthander has not had a decision in his last three starts, and comes into the game with a 2-1 record. In his last start, he threw 5.1 innings and gave up two runs 5/17 v NH. Currently Meyer is in his first season in the Minnesota Twin organization. He was traded in November 2012 from the Washington Nationals for OF Denard Span. Meyer was originally drafted in the first round of the 2011 draft by the Nationals out of the University of Kentucky.


MISSED OPPORTUNITIES: The B-Mets stranded a season-high 13 batters in Tuesday night’s loss to New Britain. They tallied double digit hits for the third consecutive game, and were walked eight times. They finished 3-for-8 with RISP, but could only score three runs on the night. The B-Mets bounced into three double plays, and had two more runners nabbed on the bases in the loss.


MULTIPLE HITS FOR TOVAR: Wilfredo Tovar went 2-for-4 on Tuesday, and has hit safely in each of the last four games. The shortstop now has five multi-hit games in the month of May, and has raised his batting average from .201 (May 1) to .245 (current).


HIT STREAKS: Allan Dykstra has gone 12-for-30 during his eight game hitting streak. Earlier this season (4/19 - 29) Dykstra hit safely in 10 straight games.  Josh Rodriguez has hit safely in a season-high seven consecutive games. He is 10-for-22 during that stretch.


EARLY OFFENSE:  The B-Mets scored two runs in the top of the first inning in Tuesday’s 9-3 loss. That was the fifth straight game Binghamton has scored in the first inning. They have scored in the first inning 17 times this season.


LEAGUE RANKS: Josh Rodriguez is second in the league in walks (31) and ranks fifth in the league with 29 runs scored. Allan Dykstra is ranked third in on-base-percentage (.436). Alonzo Harris is fourth in the league with 13 stolen bases. Cesar Puello is ranked seventh in the league in batting average (.315). Logan Verrett leads the league in wins (6) and innings (60.1). Jeff Walters has a league-high 12 saves.


NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets wrap up a seven game roadtrip with the series finale against the New Britain Rock Cats. They will play their first 10:35 AM game of the season on Thursday. LHP Mark Cohoon is scheduled to start against RHP Logan Darnell.
