Blue Jays Defeat Mets 5-3
DUNEDIN, FLA. — Andy Burns had a go-ahead RBI double in the fifth as the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Mets 5-3 on Wednesday.
The Mets had a 3-2 lead entering the fifth before the Blue Jays took the lead. Matt Newman and Burns had back-to-back RBI doubles off of Mets starter Noah Syndergaard.
Syndergaard pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed four runs(three earned) and seven hits while striking out four and walking two.
Gilbert Gomez had an RBI double to left in the second inning to score Charley Thurber.
Thurber ripped a two-run homer to right-center in the fourth to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.
Jim Fuller pitched 1 1/3 innings and struck out two. He surrendered a two-out home run to Burns in the seventh. Ryan Fraser allowed one hit in a scoreless eighth in relief.
The Mets will visit the Blue Jays for the series finale on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Jenrry Mejia will make his second start on a major league rehab assignment for the Mets.
