Late Walk Forces Home Winning Run for St. Lucie Mets


St. Lucie wins game 2 of series vs. Marauders, 5-4 (Box Score

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (July 21, 2021) – The St. Lucie Mets edged the Bradenton Marauders 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Clover Park.

Branden Fryman worked a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to force home Alex Ramirez for the go-ahead run. 

Luis Montas and Liam McCall teamed up to get the final three outs in the top of the ninth to end the game. McCall came in with two outs and two runners on and got Dariel Lopez to fly out to Ramirez in foul territory to finish the job. 

Jose Peroza went 4 for 4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Peroza started the eighth inning rally with a leadoff single. Jimmy Titus worked a two-out walk from Sergio Umana to keep the inning alive. New reliever Alex Roth entered and walked Matt O'Neill to load the bases, then walked Fryman on four pitches to give the Mets the lead. 

Montas allowed two inherited runners to score in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4, but he escaped the inning with the tie. Montas pitched 2.2 innings without allowing a run of his own to get the win. He is now 5-0 in 13 relief appearances. 

Mets starter Junior Santos pitched 6.0 solid innings. He scattered eight hits, gave up two earned runs and struck out four. He did not issue a walk. 

The Mets (36-32) and Marauder (42-25) play the third game of their series at Clover Park on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. It is Dollar Night with $1 Bud and Bud Light (8 oz. cans), $1 hot dogs, $1 soda and $1 popcorn.
