Mack - Draft Thoughts: Jacob Berry, Jurrangelo Cijntje, Mason Barnett, Cam Collier, Adam Mazur

9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

13. Jacob Berry

Third Base, LSU

Simply put, one of the best hitters in the 2022 class. A year removed from anchoring the Arizona Wildcats lineup, Berry transferred to LSU to follow Jay Johnson. Berry was not only arguably the best freshman in college baseball in 2021, you could make the argument he was one of the best players in the country regardless of age. He's a potential plus hitter with plus power. His optimized swing is allowing the power to play immediately. He's an physical, imposing specimin with power to all fields and enough speed to be given some credit on the basepaths. He's likely a third baseman at the next level, though some believe he'll have to shift to first base. The only thing holding Berry from potentially becoming a top ten pick would be some of the swing and miss in his game.

3. Jacob Berry, 1B/3B, Louisiana State

Berry raked to the tune of .352/.439/.676 with 17 homers as a true freshman at Arizona this spring, then transferred to Louisiana State when Wildcats head coach Jay Johnson headed to Baton Rouge. Berry is a switch-hitter who stands out most with his considerable power, but he also displays fine hitting ability from both sides of the plate. With below-average speed and arm strength, he mostly DHed for Arizona before playing first base for Team USA, and he's more likely to wind up at first than third.

Mack's spin -

Berry is rapidly climbing up the charts lately, both at first and third.

I have moved him up to my 1st third baseman

6-21 - Keanan Lamb  @keananlamb

The rare switch pitcher! Jurrangelo Cijntje has the more dynamic arm-speed from the right side, more in control from the left, both using a loopy CB to get outs. Fascinating prospect

Mack's spin -

I'm not sure if people are writing about this kid because he is talented or the fact he throws with both arms.

Could he be the first double arm TJS?

Too early for my board.

9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

93 Mason Barnett

RHP        Auburn        Cartersville, GA

Barnett has been up to 95 on the bump some armside run and late hop on the fastball. It's a longer arm action in the back that comes through really clean with significant arm-speed. There's some deception here. It's a true four-pitch mix with an above average slider with some depth but more feel for sweep in the low 80s. The changeup has good arm speed in the upper 80s, fringy more often than not. He works in a 12-6 bender that shows good shape in the upper-70s and planes well off the slider.

9-6-21 - BA - Top Cape Prospects 25-50  -

34. Mason Barnett, RHP, Brewster (Third-year sophomore, Auburn)

Barnett has primarily pitched out of the bullpen in his first two years at Auburn but pitched this summer exclusively as a starter in five appearances for Brewster. He handled the role well, going 1-1, 4.95 with 23 strikeouts and six walks in 20 innings.

Barnett has a strong, physical frame at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. His fastball reaches 96 mph, but more typically sits about 93 mph with good life. He has a power breaking ball that can get swings and misses, and his changeup is a weapon against lefthanded hitters. He threw a lot of strikes, though his command still needs some refining. Barnett showed his upside as a starter with Brewster. Now, he’ll look to carry that success over into a full spring season.

Mack's pick -

Talented, but right now I project him as late second day pick at my 17th RHP.

9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS -

40 Cam Collier

3B

Mt Paran Christian

Austell, GA

Collier comes packed into a physical frame with big strength in his lower half and core. Collier reclassified from the 2023 class into this years class and because of it will be one of the youngest player draft-eligible in June. In fact, he'll be just 17 years old and 7 months on draft day. In 2020, third baseman Blaze Jordan took a similar route. Collier is one of the smoothest players you'll find in the class. At the plate, it's effortless and fluid with an all-fields approach and big pull-side power. Collier has a bat path that big league scouts dream on. He doesn't sell out for loft and instead generates his power inducing backspin on the baseball and driving through pitches in the zone. On the dirt, Collier is certainly destined for third base where his plus arm soft hands project well for the position. Collier is a below average runner, though his money will be made with the bat and with his throwing arm.

9-1-21 - MLB - Top high school prospects for '22 Draft

13. Cam Collier, 3B, Mt Paran Christian HS (Ga.)

 College commitment: Chipola Junior College

The son of former big leaguer Lou Collier, Cam reclassified from 2023 to this class and will be one of the youngest players in this group. He recently announced he’s getting his GED this fall and will attend Chipola JC in the spring, so scouts will have to travel to the panhandle of Florida to see his outstanding hit and power tools in action.

Mack's spin -

You don't come out a year early for the draft and then chose to attend Chipola Junior College.

Not gonna happen.

A first round lock and still my #3 third baseman.

8-30-21 - Prospects Live - Top 50 Cape Prospects -

31. ADAM MAZUR, RHP

IOWA (2022): WAREHAM GATEMEN

FB CB SL CH Command FV

50/55 40/50 50/55 45/50 45/55 4

Tall, lean frame. Athletic body. Clean repeatable delivery. Relies heavily on a FB/SL mix. Average spin FB with above average IVB. SL does not have much sweep, late diving action out of K zone. Flashes a 12-6 CB. CH late fading action and is used exclusively vs. LHH. Has the ability to spin two breaking balls and a projectible athletic body, profiles as a back of rotation starter.

Mack's spin -

Entering my board as the 40th RHP.
