Mack - Draft Thoughts: Brooks Lee, Dakota Jordan, Jack Jasiak, Cole Young, Jace Grady

 9-9-21 - Prospects Live - 2022 MLB DRAFT - TOP 150 PROSPECTS - 

1. Brooks Lee

Shortstop, Cal Poly 

A name many expected to hear called in the 2019 MLB Draft, Lee decided to forego MLB to play for his dad at Cal Poly. Listed at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Lee is an extremely physical, barrel-chested shortstop with a significant strength throughout his frame. Big for the position, Lee carries his size extremely well on the dirt where his fluidity on the dirt and huge arm really standout on defense. He receives high marks for his instincts and leadership on the field, captaining the defense in-between plays. A switch-hitter with power from both sides of the plate, Lee showcases a big bat with a plus hit tool and thump. Extremely quick hands. It’s plus raw power that he’s getting into, spraying missiles to all fields. Scouts believe there’s significant power coming. Lee may eventually have to shift to third base, though his toolset fits the position nicely. He’s a fringy runner, but his athleticism more than makes up for any foot speed he may lack.

1. Brooks Lee, SS, Cal Poly 

Lee drew first-round interest out of high school in 2019, then missed almost all of last season following knee and hamstring surgery before returning in 2021 to win Big West co-Player of the Year honors after batting .342/.384/.626 with 10 homers. He also starred for the U.S. collegiate national team and in the Cape Cod League, displaying exceptional bat-to-ball skills and at least average power from both sides of the plate. The son of Cal Poly coach Larry Lee, he has fine instincts and a strong arm, though his fringy-to-average speed could dictate a-move to second or third base in pro ball.

132 Dakota Jordan

Jackson Academy

Canton, MS 

Ultra-physical right-handed bat. Does a phenomenal job keeping his hands inside and using his core strength to create unreal bat speed. Jordan uses the whole field really well and rarely sells out for pullside power. It's a line-drive oriented swing, gap-to-gap with authority. Jordan is a plus runner with an average arm from the outfield. Jordan is an accomplished wide received as well, committed to play football and possibly baseball at Mississippi State.

 Dakota Jordan is a thickly built power hitter with short levers that should allow for him to get into that raw power with a quick stroke

9-6-21 - BA - Top Cape Prospects 25-50  - 

32. Jack Jasiak, RHP, Falmouth (Third-year sophomore, South Florida) 

Jasiak has been a fixture in the USF rotation since arriving on campus two years ago and last season was the Bulls’ ace, going 6-7, 2.93 to help lead them to super regionals. He made a brief appearance on the Cape, going 2-0, 2.89 with 16 strikeouts and four walks in 18.2 innings for Falmouth. 

Listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Jasiak has a good frame and a strong understanding of what he needs to do to be successful. His fastball sits in the low 90s and the life he gets on the pitch makes it difficult for hitters to square up. He pairs his fastball with a short slider that can be a swing-and-miss pitch and a changeup that he rarely used this summer but is tough on lefthanders. He commands his fastball well and throws all three pitches for strikes. While Jasiak doesn’t have a plus pitch, he has solid tools across the board.

8. Cole Young

Shortstop, North Allegheny HS 

One of the top middle infielders in the 2022 class. Pretty complete profile. Strong defensively up the middle with good footwork and an accurate arm with the innate feel for timing. Tends to peppers ball into gaps both pull-side and opposite field, but Young has a well-leveraged body with big exit velos. He can ambush fastballs and lift when he wants. Very polished profile that projects to stick at shortstop and hit for average and some pop.

11. Cole Young, SS, North Allegheny HS (Pa.)

College commitment: Duke

While Young doesn’t have any wow tools, he’s the kind of player who will grow on you the more you watch him. He has a very advanced bat from the left side, though he is definitely hit over power. He showed this summer that it looks like he can stay at shortstop, and he brings good energy and plus instincts to the table.

Critics.

I difrer from this opinion and list him as my current 10th SS.

 24. JACE GRADY, OF

 DALLAS BAPTIST (2022): COTUIT KETTLEERS

 Hit Power Arm Field Run FV

R: 30/50

 Switch hitter, high contact% from both sides of the plate. Displays in game power from both sides. Strength comes from pull side as a RHH/LHH. Minimal swing and miss. Ranges well in CF. Profiles as an OF who can play all three spots before moving to a corner in pro-ball.
