Well.

I have moved Nimmo to left.

Considering that I want Baez and Stro signed long term, Loup signed too, QOs for both Thor and Conforto, and another starter from FA...

Well, I don't see any $ left for a top outsider here.

Your best defensive CFer is Khalil Lee.

I go with.him.

Lee could get a shot at CF, Mack, if the powers that be believe his .450 OBP will translate to MLB success. I do remember another guy with a high AAA OBP, Eric Campbell, not faring well with the Mets.

That said, Lee is faster than Campbell, with more power.

Campbell was actually 3 for 11 in the majors this year with - who else - Mets' West, Seattle.

The one tortured Met that thankfully escaped Rikers and is hiding out in Seattle? Paul Sewald.

9-3, 2.73, 99 Ks in 63 innings. SMH

I think definitely Brandon Nimmo should be the 2022 CF for the Mets.

With JD Davis in LF because he does have sincere batting power, especially once his hand is healed up again, and then possibly Jake Mangum in RF, if he is in fact ready for his MLB challenge. Not totally sure yet.

I might think of sending Mangum, Lee, and Cortes all to Winter Ball this off season, so that we can better see how they fare against better pitching. All have talent.

To me, Dominic Smith is a solid fourth outfielder who can also start games in the outfield or on first base if needed to. I thought 2021 would be his possible step up year playing regularly.

Brandon Nimmo had a 1.00 fielding percentage in left field in 2021 and a .995 fielding percentage in center field. To my eyes, he hits better than any of the other Mets outfielders on this team, period. He also has the consistency necessary.

Consistency was truly a bigger problem here in 2021. It's so hard to win in MLB ball with inconsistency. It affected both sides of the team, pitching and hitting. This is precisely why I suggest for here a wider series of player personnel changes than most observers would.

Khali Lee is strictly a wait and see project. His play will dictate when he comes up and when he starts in the Mets outfield.

Khali averages something like a .256 BA so far in MiLB. We have those type of batting averages abundant here already on the NY Mets. A good team cannot use any more and then too make the playoffs, I do not think. You have to have some new star batters entered into the mix, or younger players with the potential to be just that. Too many 2021 Mets players took a sort of nose dive batting this season. It was too many. That is why I look within the organization at Francisco Alvarez, Carlos Cortes, and Mark Vientos. All have serious potentia. And with Javier Baez hitting for a so-so batting average in 2021, I would not entertain re-signing him here for 2022.

There really is very little similarity on average between MiLB AAA pitching and MLB pitching. So the hitter's average attained batting in MiLB may not translate accurately in MLB. It's almost apples and oranges really and this should not be overlooked when trying to judge any MiLB batter.

On a new Manager

Would David Wright be sort of an ideal choice for 2022 manager here?

He probably would not be interested because he has such a young family and all. But to me, I think he has a lot going for him and would most likely be a very successful Mets manager. He knows the organization and he probably here.

What about Ray Knight, Ron Swoboda, Ron Darling, or Keith and The Cat, to name a few from within the NY Met family. There has to be someone good for the 2022 manager role.

Sometimes you need a distinctive leader with vision to do the heavy lifting stuff with player personnel choices. Or to veto maybe a not so good idea.

The Mets fanbase wants results now and not promises or acquisition big named ideas. It's been like 35 years since this team's last Championship World Series ring and champagne toasts, and that's way too long.

This shouldn't be the NY Knicks here!

I think LF is our dumping grown where players like Smith Vientos, Cortes, Mcniel would find at bats.
so to me that means NIMMO will be in CF.

and actually that was not awful this Year.

I would go with Nimmo. He has a great eye at the plate, would be in the top 5 in MLB for OBP if he met the criteria for plate appearances, and has improved significantly as a defensive player. He hustles - never takes a play off. He has also shown the will to consistently work on his game to improve it, so I fully expect him to be better next year than 2021. Lee and Magnum have potential, but it is unproven at this level so they need more seasoning. Remember that Lee mostly failed to make contact in his plate appearances on his first call-up. CF is not a priority to fix on this team.

Take a deep breath and go after Buxton! Smith,Mauricio and Diaz for Buxton and Sano.

Nimmo’s big problem has always been durability.

Diaz, Smith, Mauricio for Buxton and Sano? Interesting.

Problem with Buxton is he spends more time on the IL than Nimmo. It's Nimmo for me and with all the changes that are supposed to happen this winter all of this could be moot. We have to have someone who can figure out why so many players excel away from us. Flexen, Matz and Sewald to name just a few who if they performed for us like their doing for their new clubs we'd be talking about a post season run right now.

Gary, root cause determination is key. Are Mets fans too negative when they are down? I used to think Paul Sewald was a poor man’s Greg Maddox potentially. Then he goes 1-14 as a Met, then goes to Seattle and pitches like…Greg Maddox.

But…The fences must be brought in.

My pick is and has been for a while - like since last year - Byron Buxton. One year left before free agency and I hear ya, Gary. . he has been hurt a lot in his career, but the man can play ball. I would love to see a guy like him play centerfield for the Mets. (I also hear Mack . .not sure how to finance this squad.) My plan B would be for Khalil Lee to put it all together and be the guy.

I still think Nimmo should be in left.

In our discussions a year ago about centerfield where most people (me included for much of it) were concentrating on George Springer, I had thrown out a start of a trade involving Matz going to the Twins with Buxton coming east. Obviously there would have needed to be a couple other pieces, but that was my starter.

I'd still like to see it happen.
