Another talented southpaw.
Perfect Game said he had the best curveball in the Cape Cod League this season. Prospects Live gave him a 70 grade for the curve. That's quite the kudos. Hubbart obviously showed them his curve (0.87/0.71).
Currently he sits on my board as the 8th LHP.

Best Curveball: Bryce Hubbart, LHP, Florida State | Brewster (2022)
Why: From a pure bat-missing perspective, this is by no means an elite pitch. However, it’s an incredibly effective one and strong metrically as well. Hubbart’s primary secondary held opposing batters to a .133/.161/.167, while landing strikes at a 63% rate. The pitch has multiple variations as well, which make some of the swing-and-miss stats tricky to take just at face value. He has one variation that’s a slow early count strike stealing and ground ball producer, and a harder variation in the upper-70s that’s more of a two-strike out pitch versus right-handers. It’s the innate feel for shape and command of the pitch that set it apart, even if other curveballs missed bats at a higher clip.

FLORIDA STATE (2022): BREWSTER WHITECAPS
FB CB SL CH Command FV
50/55 60/70 40/40 30/45 55/55 5.5
High spin FB/CB combination. FB has plus IVB and plays well at top of strike zone. CB has great depth and above average movement on two planes. Looks to attack hitters with FB and has great feel to throw CB in all counts. SL and CH are both developing secondary offerings. Needs to throw CH for strike more often, has good movement profile. Athletic pitchers’ body with room to add overall body strength. Could lead to an uptick in velocity. Profiles as a middle of rotation ML starter with ceiling of ML #2 starter.

CCBL FaBIO Evolutions: Bryce Hubbart, Florida State
OVERALL's risen since summer '20 breakout. Found a few mph on Cape, upping Draft stock. Unlike other - GB/+ IFFB/+ LD Avoid LHSP, mostly avoids Pull OFFB (high effective velo) making XBH rarer & half - CTL less runs punitive.

Bryce Hubbart (Florida State)
Hubbart's performance on the Cape this year has generated a lot of big buzz. The Florida State lefty was the ace of the Brewster staff this summer, featuring a strong package of stuff. It starts with a low-90s four seam fastball, a big curveball in the low to mid-70s with usable shape manipulation, as well as a sweeping slider. Over 31 innings this summer, Hubbart posted a 0.87 ERA with a miniscule 0.710 WHIP. He punched out 45 batters in the process. There is some effort with his arm and lower half in the delivery, but Hubbart repeats well and lands his pitches where he wants to. It’s an extremely uncomfortable at-bat with a ton of deception. This could be the first college pitcher off the board in 2022.

18. Bryce Hubbart
Left-Handed Pitcher, Florida State
When it comes to Hubbart, it's all limbs. It's an extremely funky, unique delivery that he repeats well and creates a ton of deception. To his credit, Hubbart fills up the zone despite the unique operation. Primarily a 3-pitch guy (FB, CB, CH), Hubbart has begun to work in a slurvy slider with plenty of sweep and a touch more velocity than his deeper curveball. The fastball is generally 89-92, though he's been up to 96. His athleticism, arm speed and levers suggest those gains are coming permanently. The whole package is nasty, deceptive, wonky and effective. He’s one of the more complete pitchers in the ACC and one of the more impressive pitchers in the entire country.
