The Keepers - #83 - OF - Ronald Harris

83 - Ronald Harris – OF – Brooklyn - 23-yrs.

Harris was the 14th round draft pick in 2009.

From his school’s web site on draft day:

R.J. is a junior transfer from the University of Texas in Arlington. He is a Finance and Banking major from North Crowley High School. An accomplished fielder, Harris earned All-District honors and was selected to play in the N.H.S.C.A All-Star game in 2005. Harris is considered by his friends as easy going and cool to be around. "People don't know that I love to skateboard," said R.J. He continues, "My favorite meal is Grandma Gafford's chicken fried steak, watermelon, and sweet tea." He states that his most significant accomplishment in baseball is going 10 for 10 against Texas Wesleyan last year. After graduation, R.J. would like to play in the major leagues."

Northwood's R.J. Harris was selected as RRAC Player of the Year. The junior led the conference in homeruns ( 18 ), doubles (24), runs scored (76), total bases (161), and slugging percentage (.852). He was second in the league in batting with a .418 average (79 for 189), hits (67), and RBIs (69) in 53 games. Harris was named RRAC Player of the Week five times this season.
Harris played most of the season for Kingsport, where he batted .293/.383/.418/.801, in 184 at bats. He was promoted to Brooklyn to help them in the playoffs. His combined stats for the year were .292/378/.415/.793.

Forecast: As we all know, the Mets drafted a number of outfielders this past year, obviously hoping to find a couple to stick some day. Obviously, it’s too early to tell, but Harris is off to a nice start. Right now, he’s projected to go back to Brooklyn but there’s an outside chance he may begin next season in Savannah.
