Rochester 9, Buffalo 6

Tuesday's game between the Bisons and the Wings saw a little bit of everything; great defense, hard-hitting offense, a triple-play, and four strikeouts in one half inning.

Unfortunately for the Herd they were on the losing end of a wild one at Coca-Cola Field. In the end, the Bisons were out slugged by the Rochester Red Wings, 9-6.

Although the Wings got the win, the Bisons got the highlight of the night turning a triple-play in the third inning. With runners in motion on first and second, Steven Tolleson smoked a liner to short that Argenis Reyes dove to his right to grab. From his knees, Reyes flipped to Luis Rivera at second for the second out and Rivera tossed it on to Mike Lamb at first to record the first triple-play at Coca-Cola Field since 1997 and just the second in the ballpark's history. Jason Pridie and Dustin Martin were on base as it looked like the Wings were poised for a huge inning with the game tied at two.

The only other triple play turned at Coca-Cola Field came on July 27, 1997 against Nashville. That ground ball triple play went Jeff Manto-Torey Lovullo-Richie Sexson.

But Buffalo couldn't capitalize on the momentum as the Red Wings platted single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and broke it open with two home runs and a three-run sixth inning to build a 7-3 lead. Danny Valencia led off the inning with a solo home run to left and Matt Macri followed suit two batters later hitting a two run shot to left-center. In all, Rochester hit four home runs against Bisons pitching.

The Bisons didn't go down with out a fight. Rene Rivera answered with a home run of his own sixth and the Herd scored two more in the seventh on RBI's from Lamb and Andy Green that trimmed the lead to 8-6.

However, Buffalo wouldn't get any closer. In the eighth, Wings pitcher, Anthony Slama struck out four Bisons batters. The second strikeout went as a wild pitch and Rene Rivera was able to reach first with out a throw. Slama then caught Javier Castillo looking and got Luis Rivera swinging to record his fourth strikeout of the frame.

Rene Rivera tied the game at two in the second inning with a double off the left field wall that scored Mike Lamb and Chip Ambres, who both reached on base hits to start the inning.
