3/4/10

Eddie Kunz, More Kunz, Enough With Kunz, Already, Ray Ramirez... and Mike Pelfrey

Eddie Kunz:

Eddie Kunz had a horrible outting, and put up one of the worst stat lines I have ever seen in a game: 1/3 of an inning pitched, 2 hits, 3 walks, 4 runs and an ERA of 108.00. Kunz was one out away from his ERA being a symbol, and not a number. I must admit, I kind of like it when that happens. Apparently, he looked terrible. It's one thing to look like you are throwing hard and putting up bad numbers, but another to look bad and get bad results. I'm not very excited about this kid anymore, the way I was when the Mets first drafted him. He's officially off my radar... link

More Kunz:

Today, the Braves came back and beat the Mets 9-5. The Mets had led 4-0. Fernando Martinez had two hit including a triple. Other regulars with singles were Daniel Murphy, Rod Barajas, Alex Cora and Angel Pagan. Eddie Kunz did not pitch well as he gave up the lead by allowing 4 runs in his .1 innings of work. Josh Stinson gave up 5 run the next inning and received the loss; however it should be noted that only 1 run was earned as the Mets made four errors while he was on the mound. -innk

Enough With Kunz, Already

completed this post on Eddie Kunz just prior to the start of spring training. Many more outings like this and when the team needs roster spots, Kunz could find himself on waivers. This is the time of year when pitchers are suppose to have an advantage over hitters. He only recorded one out while walking three to load the bases, then gave up a double and a hit resulting in four runs. Someone said everything from Kunz looked slow and flat... - link

Ray Ramirez:

You would think with not only Prevention, but Recovery too, that you wouldn't see Ray Ramirez on a major league field until at least the second game of spring training. Nope. Game 1. Elmer Dessens gets hit with a line drive and there's Ray Ramirez ... again. He's ubiquitous (look it up).- link

Mike Pelfrey:

The Mets have talent, so you don’t need the imagination of a “Lost” scriptwriter to envision scenarios for contention. But while the Mets try to stow last year in the forgettable history bin with signing Vince Coleman, trading Nolan Ryan and thinking Art Howe lights up a room, they cannot fully escape. Not when every scenario remains tied yet again to the effectiveness of Mike Pelfrey, Oliver Perez and John Maine.

“They have to be good,” Jerry Manuel conceded. “We don’t have enough depth to overcome [a repeat of last year].” - link
