Cerrone On Mets Camp:

in either case, i have noticed the entire camp seems more casual, more relaxed than last year, when it was very peppy, very up-beat, complete with lots of rah-rah cheering, high-fives, etc., almost like a high school practice… this year, it’s more calm, more professional, guys are doing their drills, doing their work, and people seem more comfortable, there’s more talking, more camaraderie it seems… none of this really matters, i would think, or it might, but we’ll not know until the end of the year… the point is, i talked to a team official who told me that the previous, high-energy approach was all tony b… whereas this camp is a direct reflection of Jerry Manuel… the thinking, from what i can tell is, players always show up to spring training in top shape and do not need to waste time doing high-intensity workouts for their bodies, instead they’re better suited focusing day in and day out on skills, on fielding ground balls, working on cut-off throws, etc., and so hopefully that will help in terms of how fundamentally sound the team is this season… link

Octavio Dotel:

Pittsburgh Pirates—Closer: Octavio Dotel. Others: Joel Hanrahan, Evan Meek, and Ramon Aguero.

The rebuilding Pirates place little emphasis on their closer situation. The team signed former closer Octavio Dotel to apparently take over the duties, and he seems to be the team’s only foreseeable 9th inning option coming into 2010. The best younger pitchers in the bullpen are relievers Ramon Aguero and Evan Meek. Aguero is a hard-thrower who fits the “closer mold” (but with some problems) who could make an impact this season. Nevertheless, Pittsburgh is the only speculative closer situation where attempting a discount buy is probably worth avoiding - link

Reese Havens

Born 10/20/1986 (23 years old) - SS, NYM - A successful shortstop in college whose range is a bit of a question in pro ball, South Carolina graduate David (Reese) Havens could make a heck of a second baseman for a future Mets infield that already includes two All Stars and the player picked just before him in the 2008 Draft, first baseman Ike Davis. A solid line drive hitter with plus plate discipline, Havens could be a long-term keystone solution for the Mets. - link

30 Clubs in 30 Days:

This Wednesday, March 3rd, the MLB Network will begin airing its annual Spring Training series, “30 Clubs in 30 Days.”  Just like last season, they will devote one hour to each team, each night for 30 days from March 3rd to April 1st. If you plan on visiting Port St. Lucie this year, the MLB Network team will be on hand at Mets camp on March 13th for recording, so be on the lookout - link
